Obama Is Going To Take Credit For Bush’s Victory In Iraq

Listening to Obama announce his foreign policy team today I heard him say that he will soon be giving our military a “new mission,” and that mission will be to “responsibly end” the war in Iraq and leave the country under the control of the Iraqi government.
The problem? Bush has already pretty much done that, and more.
The terrorists have been defeated. Violence is way, way down. The elected Iraqi government is in control, and we’re one step away from an agreement with that government that will set a date to bring out troops home.
So what exactly is Obama going to do? Outside of follow through on what Bush has already put in place?
Obama will take credit for ending the war in Iraq, and the media will let him get away with it because they were as wrong as he was about the war, but Bush should get credit for winning it.

    rob,

    The terrorists have been defeated.

thank goodness!! there will never be another terrorist attack from al-queda ever again!

somehow, i don’t think the world (let alone iraqis) will sleep better tonight.

  • Dino

Of course Rodney. We won just like in Vietnam.

  • Mickey

The money spent on anti-poverty programs alleviated suffering for millions. You can’t end poverty capitalism needs it to survive. For every person with $1 billion, millions need to have $1.

    marxist nonsense.

    You can’t end poverty

Then what’s your point? (besides the one on your head?)

  • RebTex

He will *try* but far too many will remember that he was wrong on the surge & refused to admit it after the fact.

  • Dino

The money spent on anti-poverty programs alleviated suffering for millions. You can’t end poverty, capitalism needs it to survive. For every person with $1 billion, millions need to have $1.

Of course I would never expect a conservative savage to understand any of that.

  • Dino

The trillions (supposedly) spent is the least we can do for asking a certain number of people to live in poverty so that some can have billions.

We ended welfare as we know it in 96. Poverty is on the rise during this time of free-market “expansion”. Do explain.

  • Mickey

Just like Clinton taking credit for Reagans economy. Same old Dems.

    Educate thyself, troll.

    richard the well shortened,

Not only did we win, we just set a new historical record for defeating an insurgency.

  • robert108

We won just like in Vietnam.

Another lie from you; this time, we didn’t allow the cowardly Dems to create defeat out of victory. The media lied about the Tet Offensive, which turned the public against the war. It was all downhill from there. The Dems engineered the defeat in Vietnam, but they failed to do it this time.
President Bush outsmarted and outmaneuvered you assholes.

Well, sirrah, you deserve to be impaled on a short fat stake for prideful ignorance.

  • http://insanereindeer.blogspot.com/ Kenny

    We won:
    An Iraqi-Iranian alliance
    Sharia law
    European and Chinese oil contracts
    1-2 million Iraqi refugees
(How many will be given US asylum ?)

Victory is rarely a perfect thing.

The victory in WW2 gave us a strengthened USSR, a demolished Germany and Japan that we spent decades rebuilding, devestated Europe-leading us to have to rebuild an entire continent, and other nasty consequences. Yet we still call it victory. Why? Because not only did we beat the Hojo army and the Nazis, but because the victory, imperfect as it was, was clearly better than losing.

I would like to touch on the Sharia aspect…because I believe this to be one of the most positive aspects of the war. They don’t actually have pure Sharia law. The parliment has gone back and has, in many places, ignored the Quran to impliment their version of Sharia Lite.

While some of these developments may not seem that great by Western standards, and some seem downright barbaric, all are massive steps forward. It’s easy as a westerner to be horrified by the fact that the female members of Parliment introduced a resolution demanding they not be beaten without cause…but such a thing is unpresidented under sharia, Islam, Arab tribal culture, Iraq or Middle East history, or even under the barbarism of Saddam Hussein and the Baathist party. It may be an 8th or 9th century attitude, but that’s a 2-3 century step forward.

It’s hard to keep this in mnd. We want Iraq to look like us…but it doesn’t, and it’s not going to for a long time. But in 5 years, it has surpassed all of it’s neighbors as a beacon of hope in the area.

The Dem “War on Poverty” has wasted trillions, with no measurable result, and that’s just one social spending program of thousands.

  • http://anthonynunez.blogspot.com/ nunez

    Robert,

You’ve been arguing, ranting and name-calling childishly those who disagreed with your incorrect assumption that we have not been a recession. Now, we know that it began in December 2007. What does this say about your capacity and lack of knowledge about the US economy? Everything. You’ve been wrong more then I can count.

  • robert108

The trillions (supposedly) spent is the least we can do for asking a certain number of people to live in poverty so that some can have billions.

You continue to repeat the Marxist “fixed pie” myth.

nutbag: Just because you want to believe a bunch of Clinton appointees doesn’t make it true.
I’m right, and your lying head is exploding. The only reason we are even in this slight dowturn is due to MSM lying propaganda, Dem social engineering and the threat of Obamunism, combined with the “bailouts” of all the badly run businesses.
    Educate yourself.

  • Dino

But Mickey, I thought the economy is the fault/responsibility of the new guy? Does this mean we can blame Bush for the new Depression?

And how about that bomb that hit the Green Zone this weekend? Wow, such a great victory when you can’t even control what happens in a small section of the country.

  • Richard

Exactly what did we ‘win’? We’ve lost about 4,000 of our best soldiers, we’re pariahs to the rest of the world, and all because G.W. and his neocon buddies invaded Iraq in order to prove something or other. We’ve wasted people and resources.

    What idiots!

    Have a nice day.

Last week there was a story on NPR about the $600 million spent in Iraq on projects never completed.

I’m sure some republican firms used the money wisely, though.

  • robert108

You couldn’t begin to create actual cause-effects that prove this wacky conspiracy theory.

I’ll leave the conspiracy theories to you and your “truther” buddies, nutbag. As far as cause and effect is concerned, downtalking(lying) about the economy for 6 years has a definite effect; Obama has threatened to destroy capital formation, and the so-called “bailout” has essentially nationalized the finance market, making it impossible for investors to know which way prices will go, now that they are controlled by the govt. This is the reason socialism always fails; it’s anti-growth; not a healthy investment environment, so investors are sitting on their money. Witness today’s stock market. The Dem social engineering home loan mandates created the financial mess, which was then exaggerated by the MSM to swing the election to Obama.
No conspiracy, just leftie power politics, designed to create crisis so that people will flock to govt and the ruling elite, instead of being independent individuals. It has been the commie plan since Lenin. Read up on it.
Since you commies can’t win in a straight up fight, you always have to resort to subversion, and you’re willing to sacrifice the American people for political power.

  • robert108

The mortgage crisis is due to Dem social engineering policies, starting with Carter and increased by Clinton; the crisis of confidence which has been added to the mortgage problem is both due to the MSM exaggerating the economic problems, which are far less than those which Carternomics created, and the fear of Obamunism. It’s the old Dem triple whammy: destroy the economy, and blame it on a Republican, for partisan political purposes.
The proof of this is Obama’s fake conservative rhetoric.

  • Dino

Mickey dear, talk to Robbie about being off-topic.

    You are correct.
THe tactic of the left was to oppose the war in the media & international stage.it helped paint the U.S. as a nation divided.
THe incessant whining & repeated back-stabbing did have an effect on our reputation around the world.
At each upturn, the left struggled to find the negative.
    Job well done.

  • http://anthonynunez.blogspot.com/ nunez

    Robert,

Just because you want to believe a bunch of Clinton appointees doesn’t make it true.

The National Bureau of Economic Research is a private nonprofit organization, your lies about appointees and how somehow that Democrats are creating a conspiracy of a recession is laughable and unearths your paranoid nature.

I’m right, and your lying head is exploding.

“The NBER is the largest economics research organization in the United States. Sixteen of the 31 American winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics have been NBER associates, as well as three of the past Chairmen of the Council of Economic Advisers, including the former NBER president, Martin Feldstein. NBER research is published by the University of Chicago Press.”

Your own belief that you are more intelligent and have a better understanding of economics than this group is very egotistical and laughable as well. And my head is fine, looking at your comments makes me feel better that you live a life of paranoia, bitterness and self-lying.

slight dowturn is due to MSM lying propaganda, Dem social engineering and the threat of Obamunism

You couldn’t begin to create actual cause-effects that prove this wacky conspiracy theory. I’d actually love to see it so I can get a laugh at your nonsense today. Explain this ‘social engineering’ that is causing the credit market to freeze etc…

combined with the “bailouts” of all the badly run businesses.

Hold on. Which one had a bigger impact?

  • bill-tb

I’m shocked I tell you … Exactly what did Obambi do to gain victory? Did he vote on something other than ‘cut and run’?

Obamunism is a loser before it even starts. The world has seen about 120 million killed in the 20th century by the failed ideology of the Obamunists.

I don’t know why anyone is surprised by obama trying to take credit for ending the war. I don’t really think the American people will believe this farce. No mandate appeared during this election which told me nearly half of America knew what this guy was all about in the first place. The numbers that gave him the election will never be heard of again. If Prop 8 was on the ballot today it wouldn’t pass. Those voters went back to their thunderbird,Mad Dog, Mexico, and home from college. The rest are livid at how he suddenly didn’t have the time of day for the left base that elected him. You should hear these people on whats left of Airless America radio.

He deserves to hang for his arrogance and what he’s done to us and the people of Iraq.

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President George W. Bush said in an interview set for broadcast Monday that he came to office “unprepared for war” and that his “biggest regret” was the US intelligence failure on Iraq.

But Bush, speaking to ABC television, refused to say whether he would have ordered the March 2003 invasion if he had known that Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction.

“That’s an interesting question. That is a do-over that I can’t do. It’s hard for me to speculate,” said the US president, who took office in January 2001 and hands the keys to the White House to Barack Obama on January 20.

“The biggest regret of all the presidency has to have been the intelligence failure in Iraq,” Bush said. “I wish the intelligence had been different, I guess.”

    I guess? What a douchebag.

  • robert108

The money spent on anti-poverty programs alleviated suffering for millions. An outright lie; the rate of poverty is unchanged, after wasting trillions, most of which was sucked up by greedy govt infrastructure. You can’t end poverty, capitalism needs it to survive. For every person with $1 billion, millions need to have $1. Thanks for your mindless recital of the thoroughly refuted Marxist “fixed pie” economic myth. Only Marxism needs a permanent underclass; it’s called “the dictatorship of the proletariat”.

The application of capital to labor and raw materials creates wealth that didn’t exist before. Your profound ignorance is noted.

And every time I see Obama I think; “The MSM has way TOO much power”

  • http://www.Myspace.com/maliciousdisorder malice420dotcom

We may have lost 4000 troops , over 8 years. We lost 3000 in 1 & 1/2 hours on 911. The troops we lost don’t want their death to be in vain. They know why they joined. My son was one of them.
It’s been over 2065 days since we had a homeland attack. I expect this record to stop very soon. Everyday I pass by the apartment where two of the 911 crowd lived, worked and went to one of our hate America colleges in San Diego, Ca. Their gone but not forgotten. In their place is another insurgency attacking America and no one cares yet because the MSM isn’t reporting again.. Their called the Mexican Drug Cartel. Twenty-three miles from my house, and sometimes less than ten miles away over 4000 people have been murdered. Many beheaded.. Every week I read in my paper ten, twenty or thirty or more are murdered over the past weekend. Over 100 Americans have been plucked off San Diego county streets and never heard from again unless a hefty ransom is paid.

If Obama wants to take credit for a new mission he should start with closing the southern border. I don’t think he will until this insurgency becomes active in your town. Their already their and just waiting to attack.

We won the war in Iraq, and that’s important because in the war on terror we have to address root causes. WE can’t possibly stop or disrupt ever terrorist attack aimed at America, so we need some fundamental changes in the region where that terror springs from.

A representative democracy in the middle of that region goes a long way toward thwarting the sort of extremism we’re talking about.

The terror insurgency in Iraq has absolutely been defeated. Doesn’t mean it won’t re-emerge if the Iraqi government and its security forces don’t stay on top of things, but for now we’ve won.

Funny how you guys move the goal posts. Just can’t admit that you were wrong can you?
