Obama Finally Admits It: The Surge Worked

A year ago Barack Obama was talking about how the surge of US troops into Iraq was going to fail.  He called it bad strategy, and said he could not support it.

Today, however, he finally granted an interview to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly and during that interview finally admitted that the surge worked.

The troop surge in Iraq has been more successful than anyone could have imagined, Barack Obama conceded Thursday in his first-ever interview on FOX News’ “The O’Reilly Factor.”

As recently as July, the Democratic presidential candidate declined to rate the surge a success, but said it had helped reduce violence in the country. On Thursday, Obama acknowledged the 2007 increase in U.S. troops has benefited the Iraqi people.

“I think that the surge has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated,” Obama said while refusing to retract his initial opposition to the surge. “I’ve already said it’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.”

“...succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated.” That nobody anticipated.

Nobody, that is, except the Bush administration.  Nobody except General David Petraeus, the architect of the surge strategy.  Nobody but Obama’s opponent, Senator John McCain.

Does Obama think we’re stupid?  He must, in trying to pass off a line like that.

Is this a rhetorical question..?  No need to answer.

He was in my backyard today.  Said that the GOP has not said anything to “you”.  Maybe he doesn’t think we are stupid, maybe he is that stupid.

… in ways nobody expected.

What kind of silly-assed, insult your intelligence BS is that???

If Obama really didn’t expect the Surge to work, that fact merely establishes his lousy national security and military policy judgment.  And this from the guy who acknowledges his lack of experience by declaring he is running on judgment instead.

Of course, if he actually believed that the Surge could work, then he reveals himself to be a consummate liar and a self-serving partisan hack.

Some choice!

First: How the hell did “Katie Couric” ever get so even handed?

Second: Bush should have “Kicked Ass” much sooner in Iraq. Of course the “Surge” worked!.. The Surge would have worked long ago. Way too many dead and crippled, young Americans for us to have screwed around over there so long in a “Police” action.
Just my opinion..

Boy, Obama did quite a bit of dancing in that interview.  I expect as much though…

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.

Interesting that Obama acknowledged (sort of!) that the Surge worked, but still avoids acknowledging that his assessment… his judgment… at the time he voted against it was wrong.

From what little I heard of the interview it sounds like Bill ate his lunch…

He doesn’t think ‘we’ are that stupid but he knows Liberals are. He’s just tending his base. Idiots need a little attention from time to time.

A bad move, either way; now it looks as if he is simply pandering for political purposes to admit the obvious truth.  He might as well have tried to keep up a “Sparkie” or “Hannitized” endless circle of bullshit.  He wrong, he lied about it, and now he’s lying for political purposes.  Not good when reality disagrees with you, and everybody knows it.

Translation: This is my worst nightmare; I can’t just admit I was wrong all along; how can I make it into something it’s not?

Wait a few days and see what Barry says about the surge. He has a tendency to pander to his audience. I fully expect him to change his story, again.

Barry O is stubborn. Haven’t we been told that’s a bad trait for a President to have? 154gkxz.gif

At the rate at which Obama keeps trying to move to the right, what John Hinderaker calls the “Republicanization of Obama”, by November he could almost qualify as John McCain’s VP… that is, if McCain didn’t already have a more qualified one on the ticket.

Obama is clear suffering from a lack of clarity and conviction on the most important issue and responsibility of our government, national defense.

HG on September 5, 2008 at 06:10 am

This Obama character is very skilled at subterfuge. He’s discovered a way to fuse his far Left-extremist political beliefs with a smooth, non-ideological surface of down-to-earth pragmatism: the substance of Jeremiah Wright with the appearance of Norman Vincent Peale.

I wonder if he learned that aproach at ACORN or from Rules for Radicals.
