Obama, Democrats Suffer Major Defeat As Cap-And-Trade Fast Track Gets Axed

Obama and certain Senate allies like Senator Kent Conrad have been working behind the scenes in Washington DC to set up a “fast track” process to ram-rod massive, sweeping policy changes like cap and trade and nationalized health care through the Senate by inserting it into the budget reconciliation process and by-passing the filibuster.  Now it appears as though those efforts have, rightfully, been defeated.

It’s a major blow for the Obama administration, but you won’t learn about it unless you read into the middle of this article, the overall tone of which makes it sound as if the tactic is still very much alive.

The GOP did have a victory Wednesday night when the Senate overwhelmingly voted 67-31 in favor of an amendment that would prohibit using the fast-track procedure to pass Obama’s “cap-and-trade” plan to combat global warming. ...

All Republicans and 26 Democrats voted for the amendment, which Republican Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska offered.

Granted, the potential use of this “cheat” is still alive for Obama’s designs on our health care system, but there’s no reason to believe that policy won’t go down under the same sort of vote as his cap and trade just did.

Obama tried to pull a fast one on cap and trade, and Republicans didn’t let him get away with it.  That’d be reported as a defeat if Bush were still President.  But since it’s Obama, he’s held to different standards by the adoring press.
