Obama Claims That He Didn’t Know His Aunt Was In The Country Illegally
Yes. That aunt. His father’s sister. The one Obama lovingly described in his book Dreams of my Father. The one he left living in run-down public housing in Boston while he lectured the rest of America about their moral failings in not helping their fellow citizens.
Turns out she’s in the country illegally:
CHICAGO – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Saturday he didn’t know that one of his relatives was living in the United States illegally and believes the appropriate laws should be followed.
The Associated Press found that Obama’s aunt had been instructed to leave the country four years ago by an immigration judge who rejected her request for asylum from her native Kenya. The woman, Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUHN on-YANG-oh), is living in public housing in Boston and is the half-sister of Obama’s late father.
A statement given to the AP by Obama’s campaign said, “Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed.”
Before anyone claims that Obama didn’t know about this aunt or her circumstances, please note this quote from the aunt herself in an earlier article:
In an interview outside her rundown apartment building on Flaherty Way, Onyango told The Times of London that she didn’t want to say much before the Nov. 4 election.
“I can’t talk about it, I just pray for him, that’s all,” she said, adding: “After the 4th, I can talk to anyone.”
Gee, I wonder who would have told her not to talk to the media until after November 4th?
Update: On a related note, how is it that the media is just finding Obama’s auntie now? Within days after Palin being brought onto McCain’s ticket we knew about her daughter’s pregnancy and her daughter’s boyfriend’s fishing violations. But they couldn’t find the embarrassing reality of Obama’s own flesh in blood not only living in poverty here in America but living here illegally too?
Double standards are great, aren’t they?
Update: By the way, Obama’s auntie contributed $250 to his campaign despite the fact that she’s not a citizen. Which begs the question, how many other contributions from non-citizens has the Obama campaign benefited from?
