Obama Claims His Uncle Helped Liberate Auschwitz

Obama is in mass-production mode with his gaffes now. This one is a real howler:

Obama also spoke about his uncle, who was part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz.

Now, is Obama so ignorant of history that he doesn’t know that the Soviets, not the Americans, liberated Auschwitz (located in Poland), or is Obama now simply flaunting the fact that the press will cover for him, no matter what he says?

K_Lunch I updated the post and put the video up there, giving you credit of course. Thanks much.

Ranks right up there with “Christmas in Cambodia.”

Treblinka was destroyed in 1943. Hard to see how anybody would have liberated that. Sounds to me like one of those stories that gets bigger with each telling to me. Also, it probably would have to have been a great uncle. I don’t think he even has an uncle, and the age would probably have not worked out for WWII.

Finally, Obama’s remarks extended over an hour. Axt113′s link only covers 10 minutes of it. The Washington Post also mentions it, but without the direct quote.

Waiting for an apology from axt113. Suspect it will take a while.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

The source goes to CBS news. Follow the link.

I didn’t hear it in the speech that you linked to, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t say it in another speech.

    The actual quote

Waiting for an apology from axt113. Suspect it will take a while.

    Seriously, now’s the time

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

No really, K, thanks a bunch. We take our credibility very seriously here so it’s great to clear that up.

You can disagree with the opinions but the facts are the facts.

  • carrick

    Thanks for the correction k_lunch.

In any case, it doesn’t sound like there was much of a liberation there. Occupying the grave-site of a massacre isn’t quite the same as liberating the would-be victims.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

This is the worst gaffe ever, for any candidate that I can think of. It’s certainly not something understandable like forgetting which town you’re in when you’re traveling as much as the candidates do.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

I was reading the comments on another blog and read that this is strange since Obama’s supporters in Hamas said that the holocaust never happened.

    Heh.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

But if CBS retracts it, you can count on SAB to issue a correction.

  • Rand E. Gerald

Obama’s uncle did liberate Auschwitz. It was his Uncle Joe Stalin.

  • k_lunch

Maybe I missed it, but I haven’t seen the quote that shows he said anything about “liberating Auschwitz”.

From about 10 seconds to 20 seconds is the sentence in question.

    giving you credit of course.

Gee, after months of watching Obama, I don’t even know how I’m supposed to react to getting credit for something I actually did. I was starting to think that people only took credit for things other people did. What a mind-blower.

  • k_lunch

Didn’t Obama dodge sniper fire in Iraq along with Hillary?

Good call. I’m going to wait for that speech around the Fourth of July.

    Interesting

My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton’s army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain. I don’t oppose all wars.

Wow, his uncle wasn’t the only one palling around witht he Red Army as Treblinka was also liberated by the Soviets (July 1944). So grandpa went to WWII too, and for some reason could only relate back to his grandson what other troops told him (apparently the uncle was not available for comment).

That comes from his own website, axt113. Can you explain that?

Turns out, since Obama’s mother was an only child, this guy is either imaginary or a great uncle. Campaign Spot

Yes. Yes, he is. Scary, huh?

Maybe I missed it, but I haven’t seen the quote that shows he said anything about “liberating Auschwitz”.
The only reference to Auschwitz I see from Obama relates to the possible PTS is “uncle” suffered after being one of the first soldiers attending the prisoners at Auschwitz.
Either way… in my opinion, he still stinks.
He is nothing short of a modern day traveling snake oil salesman.

  • k_lunch

Yeah, Muslims love to deny the Holocaust and even if they don’t deny it, you hear them twisting the facts about it…wait a second. No, he says he’s a Christian, I’m not going to go there. Implication is enough.

Sheesh… I apologize for missing it, and the video clarified it completely. It also clarifies the skills he possess as a con man.
    *shakes head*

NOTE: My apology is in no way affiliated with the apology that axt113 owes you. :)

Obama is a classic college-educated moron. He should try liberating his foot from his mouth.

Pointing out someone’s historical inaccuracies is racist, doncha know?

He’s totally right. It’s culturally biased.

Seriously, how come I’m not hearing more on this other than a few blogs – even the MSM has an obligation to rake him over the coals for this one, don’t they?

Nor should it be. I have a feeling we’ll all be waiting a very long time for that one (hell freezes over or pigs fly, any bets?).

Grrr it just drives me crazy that this dummy says one stupid thing after another, and he gets protected like he is a made man in the Mafia.

  • 84th Infantry

The 84th Infantry Division was recognized as a liberating unit by the U.S. Army’s Center of Military History and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1993.

  • k_lunch

Except it’s not just lying about his uncle – it’s boldface lying about an event in our history to pander to people at a Memorial Day service. As someone who’s father, grandfathers and actual real-life uncles actually served, I am nauseated.

I would have thought the Jews would have jumped all over this since he’s also lying about the suffering of their people for a personal gain. That would be the equivalent of me saying my ancestors helped with the Underground Railroad freeing slaves, while they had yet to immigrate here from Europe for another 30-40 years.

Treblinka was destroyed in 1943. Hard to see how anybody would have liberated that.

Treblinka was in 2 parts, so you’re half right.

The Germans had ordered that Treblinka II be dismantled in the fall of 1943. From July 1942 through November 1943, the Germans killed between 870,000 and 925,000 Jews at the killing center. Treblinka I, the forced-labor camp, continued operations until late July 1944. While the killing center was in operation, some of the arriving Jews were selected and transferred to Treblinka I, while Jews too weak to work at Treblinka I were periodically sent to Treblinka II to be killed. During late July 1944, with Soviet troops moving into the area, the camp authorities and the Trawniki-trained guards shot the remaining Jewish prisoners, between 300 and 700, and hastily dismantled and evacuated the camp. Soviet troops overran the site of both labor camp and killing center during the last week of July 1944.

You know, if this were a simple blunder about historical facts I think you could excuse Obama. We all make mistakes. Nobody is perfect. Not everybody is a student of history, and some people might not know that it was the Soviets who liberated Auschwitz.

But this isn’t merely a mistake. Obama is saying his uncle helped liberate Auschwitz. We’re supposed to believe that this is a family story Obama is quite familiar with when really this is just a lie Obama’s making up on the campaign trail.

That’s even worse than not having all the facts of WWII straight.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Well, Obama’s uncle could have helped liberate Auschwitz…if he was fighting for the Red Army. Which, given some of Obama’s policies, he might have been.

But if Obama’s uncle fought in WWII with the Americans it is worth noting that in January of 1945 American forces were busy with a little skirmish called “The Battle of the Bulge.”

If the media can give Obama a pass William Ayers they can give him a pass on lying about his uncle.
