Obama Caves…Return of the Flag Pin

From the LA Times:

Amazing what a protracted primary struggle amid bitter small towns will do to previously stated political positions.

The flag pin is back on the lapel of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama…

I wonder just how “bitter” Illinois’ rookie Senator had to be to go back on his earlier explanation about not wearing the flag pin… that,

“…you show your patriotism by being true to your values and ideals. And that’s what we have to lead with, our values and ideals.”

In some, more sophisticated circles, this is what’s known as pandering.  Like John Kerry going duck hunting, or Hillary Clinton drinking boilermakers.  The point being to try and tell the voters who the candidate wants us to think he is.  No doubt about it, Obama must be mighty bitter about having to do this.

So which of you belong to the more sophisticated circles?  Because to me showing patriotism is not pandering.

I am surprised that you think it is.  Why do you hate patriotism?

I certainly hope that the voters of this country are able to decide their future leader without having to consider this kind of “boxer v. briefs” nonsense.

More pandering to the non pin wearing lobby.

Why do you hate patriotism?

Is asking mind numbingly stupid and leading questions (like the one above) disparaging?

The point being to try and tell the voters who the candidate wants us to think he is.

This isn’t different from any other politicians now or in the past.  However, I am disappointed in him lately, playing this political game and lowering himself to Hillary’s level.  I think the reason most of his supporters liked him initially was that he seemed to play the game differently and on his own terms.  Perhaps it was just because he was fresh meat and we didn’t know what kind of man he was.

He’s gotta quit trying to play offense and just parry other’s attacks. He seems much better at that tactic.

You are partially correct; patriotism is not pandering, showing may be viewed that way, though.

showing patriotism is not pandering

It is when just weeks before you were explaining why NOT showing patriotism is so patriotic.

Look, the fact of the matter is that the Second City Rookie just ain’t ready for Prime Time.  Only an adolescent, or an imbecile, thinks a steady stream of of inconsistencies is somehow “audacious.”
