Obama Campaign Trying To Use Police Goon Squads To Intimidate Critics In Missouri

Missouri Governor tells Obama to “grow up” in a press release decrying the use of police tactics to silence critics.

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

Here’s a video report covering what the fuss is all about.  Basically two high-profile Missouri prosecutors (and Democrats) have joined what’s being called “Obama Truth Squads” which will correct false statements and reporting about Obama with tactics that include prosecution.

Now, I’m not going to defend slander of libel.  The truth is the truth, whether that truth is convenient for a particular politician or not.  But I have a problem with prosecutors, who despite being elected are supposed to be non-partisan enforcers of the law, joining “truth squads” on behalf of campaigns.

Traditionally, libel/slander laws are only enforced at the request of those being slandered/libeled.  You complain, the authorities investigate and then indictments/judgments are handed down as warranted.  But Obama’s getting special treatment from law enforcement here.  He has them out acting on his behalf, and that’s troubling.

Not just because partisan prosecutors could use investigations and indictments to intimidate people not actually guilty of libel or slander, but because people who aren’t Barack Obama don’t get that sort of treatment.

This is appalling.

This is something out of Hitler’s Socialist Germany of the Thirties.

I guess we get what we vote for!

When will the trains show up in Saint Louis and Kansas City?

Yes!..

These are certainly “Nazi” Style Tactics being employed by a Political Campaign in order to “Silence” Critics..

Is “This” how It’ll be in an “Obama White House”??

Actually, this is Obama’s usual campaign tactic: take out the opposition with smear.  He’s desperately trying to deprive Americans of the opportunity to vote for Sarah.

If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.

Thanks to Obama, America remains the only country where it is illegal to drill our own oil!

To all the good citizens of the “Show Me State”: “The One” has just showed you the truncheon wielding legal goons he is willing to unleash should you dare offer an opposing viewpoint HE considers “untruthfull”. SHOW HIM whose BOSS and in the privacy of the election booth vote McCain/Palin. Thank you! PS Should I fear Missouri’s Obamagoons? F**K them!

They told me that we would get a police state if we re-elected George Bush.  Almost four years later and they are finally right.

There is no evidence that this story is factual.  It has not been in the KC Star or any major news site.  Searching the web only finds the story on a few small websites.

It appears to be a smear by Republican Matt Blunt.  He is not running for reelection because he is very unpopular and has been involved in scandals, such as destroying emails.

There is a statement of Blunt’s website, but it provides no evidence to support the smear.  Blunt said he has “exposed plans.”  He does not site any incident of actual treats to anyone.

Blunt accused several people that are far too smart to do anything that stupid, such as Senator Claire McCaskill.  She was Missouri’s State Auditor and a prosecuting attorney.

On Their Own Time - NOT Illegal

“On Wednesday, Obama’s Missouri campaign announced U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill would lead a group of Democratic lawmakers, prosecutors and one sheriff “who will be proactive in letting voters in the Show-Me State know the truth in the face of the distortions by the McCain campaign,” according to a news release.

The group includes prosecutors from St. Louis, Dunklin, Lafayette, Cass, Clay, Ripley, Audrain and Jackson counties volunteering to be surrogates for Obama on their own time.”

Another reason for Blunts attacks.  Obama has been gradually winning support in Missouri

MISSOURI: A new Research 2000 poll has Obama cutting McCain’s lead in the Show Me State to one point, 46%-45% for a poll of “likely” voters.  McCain has always done better with “likely” voters as opposed to “registered voters.  Likely voters are usually considerably older than registered voters.

McCain was about 8-9 points ahead.  Then 5 points, Obama is now a threat in Missouri.

Not only are McCulloch and Joyce the worst sort of thugs, but they are apparently rotten lawyers, too.  According to my quick research, the statute of limitations for libel and slander in Mo. is no more than five years and generally only 2.  So if you said Obama was going to do something during his presidency, you couldn’t be prosecuted if he lost (prove damages, let alone that you lied), and if he won, you couldn’t be prosecuted until the end of Obama’s presidency, which could be as much as eight years on and thus past the statute of limitations.  Of course, this comes from Democrats, who call Bush an idiot (then how does he outwit the dems at every turn?), Reagan an idiot, Cheney the Anti-Christ and Ted “Designated Driver” Kennedy a great man.  And Jim in KC—I’m sure Blunt forced McCulloch and Joyce into those TV interviews where they threatened voters.  If you dems could please take a minute to look past your hatred.

He does not site any incident of actual treats to anyone.

Awww, no one saw Obama’s goons giving out candy? Sad.

It’s all political bullshit. Liberals (and Robert108) lie and spin and twist and obscure and distract and cheat to protect their guys and hurt the opposing team. It’s like wrestling. They distract the ref while their team mate hits you with a chair. There’s no rule they won’t break, no law they won’t skirt, no crime they won’t forgive as long as they can win.

Except that Rob links to KMOV which is a major St Louis news station, and has far more people view it than the KC Star.

Democrats always do this sort of shit. Poll taxes, not just on Negroes, on Irishmen, Italians, Chinese/Oreintals. Jim Crowe Laws. Blocking of education for freed slaves. Stripping of maney and land from Tribes after signing of treaties. Fighting against equal treatment before the law. History is replete with examples of Democrat Party duplicity and anti-American activities. Why would anyone be surprised by this?

In a telephone interview with the News-Leader, Donatelli admitted the Democratic prosecutors “haven’t specifically said” they would use their prosecutorial powers on Obama’s behalf.”

I watched the video.  There was no statement from the interviewed individuals to indicate they planned to doing anything in their official capacity of enforcing laws.

They are campaigning on their own time.

Gov Blunt is a sleaze that is greasing the wheels to get another job after he leaves office because Missourians would never reelect him.
