Obama Campaign Trying To Pressure Television Stations Into Taking NRA Ad Off The Air
The Obama campaign is in panic. That’s the only thing that can explain this letter being sent to televisions that are airing NRA ads critical of Obama’s record on guns.
In the letter, it’s claimed that the ad contains falsehoods about Obama’s records, and even cites a Washington Post article giving the ads “three Pinnochios” for being misleading. But David Kopel over at The Volokh Conspiracy takes a look at the ad and finds no inaccuracies, and frankly I trust Kopel’s analysis a lot more than the Washington Post’s.
What I found most interesting in the letter was the Obama campaign’s not-so-subtle mention of the FCC:

Clearly a veiled threat of political and legal action should these ads keep airing. Which is classically liberal, no? If you’re saying something the liberals don’t like, they’ll sic the lawyers and the bureaucrats on you until you shut up. Because it’s in the “public interest” that they not be criticized.
What I’m wondering is why Obama would even acknowledge these ads. Threatening legal/political action only draws more attention to these ads and they just make the campaign look thuggish. Plus, any legal/political proceedings initiated now more than likely wouldn’t conclude until after the election anyway so what good would it do?
They’d be better off ignoring the ads and focusing their attention on something other than Obama’s abysmal anti-gun record.
Here are the NRA’s ads in case you haven’t seen them:
