Obama Campaign Still Keep June Fund Raising Numbers A Secret

Byron York:

Why hasn’t Barack Obama revealed how much money he raised in June? A number of his supporters are a bit antsy about it — is he still pulling in those record-breaking numbers? If so, why hasn’t he said anything?

The Obama campaign has said anything because they’re embarrassed by the June fund raising numbers, especially coming after Obama’s high-profile rejection of public campaign financing.  Which is turning out to be a bit of hubris the liberal messiah is going to end up regretting.

What’s particularly interesting is that Obama is running one of the most bloated campaigns in the history of Presidential politics.  His campaign staff is twice what Bush’s was in 2004.  He is outspending McCain nearly 5 - 1 on staff salaries, 2 - 1 on office rent and 25 - 1 on advertising.

Plus, Obama’s roughly 700 campaign staffers are seven times what McCain has.

Obama was the fund raising master in the primaries, no doubt about it, but with many of his biggest-money contributors having already maxed out the amount they can legally donate to him and with Hillary’s backers balking at forking over any cash he’s in serious trouble given the above spending levels.

With his choice not to take public funding complicating the issue further, Obama is faced with either keeping his fund raising at the herculean levels he enjoyed throughout the primaries, which is bloody unlikely, or having to cut back on campaign expenditures.

With staff cut backs likely to make the candidate Oprah is now calling “the one” look a bit less messianic than we’ve become accustomed to neither option is all that good.

The reason is simple: To keep his rivals in the dark for as long as possible.

I would be a freaking millionaire if I had a dollar for every time I have heard liberals in the last 8 years or so complain Bush and/or Republicans only win elections because they have all the money.

Now that it is Obama who has all the money, BIG SHIFTING OF POSITIONS from liberals ( confirmed by their deafening silence ).

Typical.

hey they’re liberals, what do you expect?

Friend of USA on July 14, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Friend of the USA you’re right when the GOP was raising all of that money the left was beside it self. Now when the BHO is making big gains in fundraising asking the Messiah about how much he raised in June is out of bounds.

I’m sure Hillary will tell Obama how to connect with the Chinese money bundlers.

I think it’s funny that the Obama faithful on this blog who defend the messiah’s every move aren’t touching this one with a ten foot pole.

Friend of USA and all the rest of you, there is a monumental difference between raising almost $135 million dollars from donations of $200 and under (as Obama did in the primaries) and raising most of your money from people who are maxing out ($2300) their campaign contributions.  The problem with money in politics is the issue of “who’s money”.  If it’s just the fat cats buying their stooge there’s a problem.  If it’s over a million people giving what they can afford, they’re not expecting any quid pro quo gains.  You all should really stop parroting back what you hear party hacks and pundits shout on cable news.  Grow and educate yourself a little.

Educate myself?

You’re funny.

Obama has spent 25 times more than McCain on advertising, I do not care who paid for it,

look at it this way,

if both coke and Pepsi create a new apple flavored soft drink, but coke spends 25 times more on publicity than Pepsi, who do you think will be selling a lot of apple flavored soft drinks?

It does not matter if Pepsi’s apple drink tastes better or contains tow onces more for the same price, the 25 times larger publicity campaign by coke will “buy” new customers for coke.

obvious isn’t it?

It does not matter who paid for the publicity for Obama, small people or “evil” large corporations, it could be the Easter bunny for all I care!

but spending 25 times more buying publicity is one way to “BUY” votes

I do not mean actually buy votes but convince or even “convert” people to Obama-mania, if you know anything about advertisement you know it can get amazing results no matter if the product is good or not.

Liberals were not complaining about where the money was coming from but complaining about the fact Bush had immense resources at his disposal and that it was unfair to AL Gore or Kerry.

But now that Obama has the immense ressources to buy 25 times more publicity than McCain, BIG SHIFT of POSITION.

Now liberals say it is all good.

And on top of this Obama has the main stream media and Hollywood stars giving him free publicity.

I doubt you see this as unfair to McCain…

Once again Friend of USA you have confirmed my disappointment in your sides understanding of the world.  Money in and of itself is not bad for politics.  Money from a few rich and powerful people who can buy their horse a seat in the winner’s circle is bad for America.  Millions of small donations shows that a massive number of people want Barack Obama to win while a small number of big donors like McCain had shows that he is in the pocket of big money that doesn’t care about the American people, only profits.  And this continued BS about the main stream media boosting Obama is laughable.  In case you haven’t noticed they have done everything in their power to keep what should be a landslide democratic victory a close horse race because it increases their ratings.  And who exactly do you consider the MSM?  Despite claiming to have the best ratings on Cable News, Faux News Channel still refers to other outlets as the MSM.  How can you be #1 and outside of the mainstream?

If this were actually true, Steve Forbes would have been president.

Yeah, the $200 and under contributions are completely anonymous.

How convenient for the messiah.

The books are cooked. Please pass the grain of salt.

The reason it has taken so long for Obama to report the June numbers is because they are padding them with July donations.

Look for this same stunt for July’s donations. They will not be reporting those until just before the August 25th convention

For those of you who haven’t seen the numbers yet, the Obama team raised about $52 million.  The average donation was 68 bucks.  Most of McCain’s money is from the RNC war chest which can accept those big $10000 donations from the rich and powerful.  This is a great moment for American Democracy.

If, as Johnny at Work suggests, they are using July numbers to inflate June, this would mean they were counting their money twice which would be a very difficult thing to do alongside spending it.  Unlike the Hillary camp that was inflating their primary fundraising with general election numbers, the Obama camp has been pretty dead on with their numbers.  Good luck trying to spin this for McCain.

Reading the numbers asserts, ...while a small number of big donors like McCain had shows that he is in the pocket of big money that doesn’t care about the American people, only profits.

Wow, that’s one hell of an assumption you’ve got there.

This is a great moment for American Democracy.

Anytime your side wins, it is the death of freedom.

Now carry on with your ignorant blather about “Faux News”. That one makes you look so intelligent.
