Obama Calls McCain’s Health Bill “Radical”
In an apparent attempt to dilute the word “radical” this election season because he’s constantly trying to bury his ties to actual radicals like William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright and ACORN, Obama is calling McCain’s health care plan “radical.”
Leave it to a big-government liberal to describe a plan that focuses on empowering us to take more personal responsibility for our own medical costs “radical.”
With families increasingly worried about their economic security, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is opening a major assault on what he charges is a “radical plan” by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to decentralize health insurance.
Bill Burton, national press secretary of the Obama campaign, charged: “Millions [would] lose the health-care that they have.”
Obama is unveiling his new assault at a rally in Newport News, Va., this afternoon, and the campaign is following up with TV ads, radio spots, mailers and grassroots events in battleground states, aides said.
“[W]hat John McCain doesn’t tell you is that his plan calls for massive deregulation of the insurance industry that would leave families without the basic protections you rely on,” Obama says.
Ah yes. It’s all hear. Class warfare. Paternalism. Politics of fear. This is straight out of the liberal playbook, so of course the media is going to eat it up.
But I have to ask: Is wanting Americans to pay for more of their own health care really….radical? Seems like common sense to me. You get sick, you pay your own bills.
What’s “radical,” if not exactly anything new, is this idea that employers and/or the government should be the exclusive providers of health care (which is exactly what Obama wants).
That’s the truly radical position to have, because it is completely at odds with the ideals of individualism and self-reliance this country was founded upon. We shouldn’t want other people to pay for our health care if we can help it, because not only is our health care our personal responsibility but also because asking other people to pay for our health care invites them to start regulating our health for us.
We were once a nation of citizens who just wanted to be free to live our lives our own way. Now we’re a nation of people with our hands out, wondering which political leader is going to get us more goodies funded by “taxes on the rich.” Obama knows this. Obama’s pandering to this. And what’s pathetic is that it will probably work to some degree.
