Obama Calls Guantanamo Bay “A Complete Failure” In National Security Speech

Yesterday Obama said he was going to “take back” the war on terror issue from…uh…whoever it is that has been running it during his administration to date, and today he delivered on that promise calling the Guantanamo Day detention facility a “complete failure.”

Of course, despite the fact that Gitmo is a “complete failure”, Obama won’t be closing it any time soon. Because when he’s not busy grandstanding in front of his liberal base, Obama has essentially embraced the Bush administration’s position on Guantanamo Bay. Detainees will be tried through military tribunals, and the detention facility will be closed eventually.
What today was isn’t Obama taking a bold stance on the issue. It’s Obama trying to mend fences with his base who he has seriously ticked off over the last few weeks with flip-flop after flip-flop on national security policy. This wasn’t Obama being a leader. This is Obama doing a campaign stop for his 2012 election.

Barry just whooped the Bush admins behind.

Is that why the Senate denied funding to shut down gitmo, IDIOT?

    Damn, you are STUPID!

    Let’s see . . .

No terrorist attacks here since Gitmo opened for business.

The ‘complete failure’ only exists as text on Barry Zero’s teleprompter.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Obama’s purpose in giving this speech wasn’t to “retake control of the war on terror” so much as it was an effort to force Congress, particularly members of his own party, to authorize the funds for him to close down Gitmo.

Of course he witlessly left himself wide open for Dick Cheney’s call that the rest of the CIA documents be released, since there is no defensible argument against their release after Obama’s speech. After all, if “we don’t do this any more” is a good enough excuse for releasing the documents pertaiing to the methodology of enhanced interrogation techniques, there’s no earthly reason for Obama to withhold the intelligence that was garnered.

Obama has boxed himself in, and Dick Cheney is far to experienced and crafty to let this end simply because Barack Obama would prefer that. If the enhanced interrogation techniques didn’t work and we got no useful information from the three terrorists, then a full release of the documents Cheney has called for would settle the question.

Obama spent half his speech braying about transparency. Here’s his chance to demonstrate that it wasn’t all just BS.

Barri is absolutely right, Gitmo is a failure. Not a single one of these terrorists fucks has been executed, the makes Gitmo a failure.

I think Cheney Kicked Barry’s ass today and made him look like a petty and unprepared leader.

The Chairman has no idea what he is doing. I bet he thought this was going to be smooth and easy.

Barry was freaking out. He sounded like the partisan hack he is. Cheney sounded more like a national leader, obama was like a yapping dog reacting to what Cheney was saying.

Ask yourselves why does it cost 80-100 to CLOSE down the base? Seems to me you put a couple padlocks on the front gate and you go home. You don’t suppose our Chicago real estate whiz has made a deal with the Castro brothers to turn over a base, way before the lease is up, in what ,in form, looks an awful lot like Club Cuba? He’s from Chi town, what do we expect?

He makes me yearn for “Billy” beer.
