Obama Blames Putin’s Aggression On America

Obama apparently thinks that when Russia began its war of aggression with Georgia they were just following America’s lead.

Yesterday, Barack Obama told a Virginia audience “We’ve got to send a clear message to Russia and unify our allies. They can’t charge into other countries. Of course it helps if we are leading by example on that point.”
Faced with a geopolitical challenge that demands unwavering Western fortitude and American stewardship, Barack Obama apologizes for the misuse of American strength and initiative. This speaks of a worldview in which America’s faults are always kept at the fore and a national security paradigm in which the U.S. must seek to understand enemy action as a manifestation of American arrogance. This worldview leaves us dangerously ill-equipped to tackle or even contain antagonists like Vladimir Putin and company.

To compare the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan (which I think we have to assume Obama is talking about) to what Russia is doing in Georgia is to suggest a level of naivete about the world that simply should not exist in a national leader. We invaded Afghanistan to catch the criminals responsible for 9/11. We invaded Iraq to liberate the people there from the cruel tyranny of Saddam Hussein as a part of the overall war on terror (oppressed masses in the middle east are fertile grounds for international terrorist recruits). Russia invaded Georgia to re-establish the Soviet-era imperialist fiefdom the country once was. And while the Russians used the plight of the Ossetians as a pretext for war, only a fool would believe that the conflict was only to do with that.
On a related note, does anyone miss the sort of Democrat who didn’t see the world through a fog of American misdeeds? I don’t think Franklin Roosevelt was wringing his hands about American slavery while allied forces were liberating concentration camps in Europe. Harry Truman didn’t refrain from bringing WWII to a swift end by nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki because some in America said that FDR had goaded Japan into war. Heck, even John Kennedy was capable of recognizing that Soviet aggression in the world was worth opposing even if America’s track record has never been spotless.
FDR, HST and JFK leaders who understood that our mistakes weren’t absolution for the mistakes of our enemies. It’s too bad Barack Obama isn’t a leader.

Listening to liberals like Hawk and H explain their extreme ignorance is like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard… loud, irritating, obnoxious, and absolutely senseless.

(probably more pro-American than the Democratic Party).

No “probably” about it. The Dems are the Party of Eurosocialism; they don’t represent real American values.

Obama is right. We stepped on the toes of the French and Russians when we circumvented them to invade Iraq. Great leaders realize that their country is not infallible. And I remind you, Russia is technically not our enemy.

I would put you in the hate America first crowd.

And while the Russians used the plight of the Ossetians as a pretext for war, only a fool would believe that the conflict was only to do with that.

And we used WMDs as a pretext for invading Iraq. It’s quite possible the documents were forged by the DOD in a propoganda campaign against the American people.

It has been both the idiotic NATO expansionist policy of both Clinton and Bush that has led us to where we are now with Russia. We expand NATO up to Russia’s border but tell them they cannot be a part of it. We humiliate them assuming they would never have the power to contest it. They choose an old style Soviet in response and now they have the oil revenues to contest it and they are.

Instead of trying to cultivate a friendship with Russia, we have been intent on ensuring animosity.

Of course. Blame America first. Of course, if BHO were president, he could still blame “past injustices” and whatever his church dreams up.

So if Russia would have bombed them from 30,000 feet and based troops in another friendly country, then that would be okay?

Maybe we could just get Barry to put them in a closet to die a slow painfully alone death.

    Beware of Barry’s closet!!!!

Here here! Somebody buy that man a drink!

I agree 100%. You can’t lead if you first can’t lead by example. He is right on the money!

That is the only way America is going to gain any world-wide credibility with all of our allies.

We invaded Iraq to liberate the people there from the cruel tyranny of Saddam Hussein as a part of the overall war on terror (oppressed masses in the middle east are fertile grounds for international terrorist recruits).

Wait, wait, wait. What about defending our freedoms in Iraq? Anyone remember that one?

What dishonest revisionists history. Notice how dishonest Rob said absolutely nothing about WMDs? That of course was about 85% of the reason to invade Irag.

    What utter bullshit Rob.

It was only a matter of time before this Marxist-hate America-racist-Obama-messiah played the “moral equivalence” card…..

So our “charging into” Iraq–with dozens of allies, supported by a U.N. resolution, as a last resort after six months of build-up and negotiations, to unseat one of the cruelest dictators of modern times who had twice invaded neighboring states, was in violation of more than a dozen U.N. resolutions and was responsible for the deaths of something like two million people, who was shooting at American aircraft and had tried to assassinate a former President of the United States, in Obama’s childish mind, was just like Russia’s “charging into” Georgia, which resembles Saddam’s Iraq in no respect.

And, of course, we invaded a horrifying charnel-house so as to establish a democracy, whereas Russia invaded a peaceful democracy that it wants to re-incorporate into its empire.

  • robert108

We stepped on the toes of the French and Russians when we circumvented them to invade Iraq.

Wrong. The French and the Russians were being bought by Saddam’s “oil for food” UN scam, so they wouldn’t go against him. You confuse corruption with principle.
BTW, we don’t have to pass “a global test” to go after our enemies.

I knew that BHO was a blame America first Liberal and that stupid statement just proves it. What a moron.

The only abuses of American firepower happened under Clinton’s watch.

    You are absolutely correct…

After the fall of communism, most Russians were extremely pro American (probably more pro-American than the Democratic Party).

That lasted until Clinton decided to beat the crap out of Serbia. The Serbians, by the way, have always had a special relationship with Russia. And when America attacked Serbia, it turned a crucial number of the Russian people against us.

To make matters worse, American support enabled the Al Queada trained KLA to ethnically cleanse Kosovo of Serbians.

Why would America bomb a tiny country that posed no threat to America, and aid Islamic extremists? Because Bill Clinton had just gotten caught with his pants down in the oval office and needed a war to distract America from Monica Lewinsky.

Much of our current problems with Russia are because of Clinton’s post BJ Wag-The-Dog strategy .
