Obama Backing Away From Promise To “Roll Back” The Bush Tax Cuts

What’s this?  The liberal messiah keeping in place tax cuts for the rich?

Heresy!

President-elect Barack Obama may consider delaying an election promise - to roll back tax cuts on high-income Americans - as part of his economic recovery strategy, a senior aide and an adviser said on Sunday.

David Axelrod, one of Obama’s closest confidants chosen to be a senior White House adviser, was asked if the tax cut could be ended later than Obama called for during the campaign. “Considerations will be made,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Could this be a tacit admission from Obama that massive tax hikes are not what the economy needs right now?  And that the promise of such may be exactly what’s making the market tank right now?

I think that’s exactly the goal here.  Remember: Letting the Bush tax cuts expire would mean a massive hike in taxes on income from investment.  And if there’s anything this economy doesn’t need right now, it’s prohibitive taxes on investing.

Obama may be the most liberal President this country has elected since Jimmy Carter’s failed term in office, but he’s no dummy.  And he has a lot more ambition than ideological drive, meaning that he’s someone more than willing to put principles aside for the sake of gaining and maintaining power.

The only problem Obama is going to face, if this is indeed his strategy, is how to keep these tax cuts in place without appearing to support them.  Remember, thanks to inept Republicans, the Bush tax cuts aren’t permanent.  They’ll expire in this coming session of Congress unless Obama and his Democrats either extend them or make them permanent.

We should hope they do just that.

How does anyone know what BO will do?
He’s never done anything before, to gage the future on.
The only thing seen so far is this desire for some massive, “Socialist” agenda he keep leaning towards.

I’m more than happy to support Obama on this. I’m sure Pelosi and Reid were pushing for an immediate increase so happy to see Obama is staying toward the center.

We will see.

I have stated many times to friends that thought I would cut my wrists when Obama got elected, if the guy makes sense and sticks to the middle of the road, I will gladly wait out the 4 years in calm acceptance of the idiots who elected him.

If he swings hard left, I will work against him with all the energy of a hive of bees.

He has the potential to enact legislation that will utterly destroy the country, but in so doing he would destroy his and his ilk’s political chances for a very long time.

If he stays in the middle, and things settle down somewhat, he will have a nice, though boring term, and retire a wealthy man like Clinton, to be known as the first black President will put him in demand for a very long time.  He is a good speaker and will do well on the circuit when he is done.

There will always be an audience for peaceniks and socialists on the college speaking circuit, and I don’t begrudge him his fame and fortune.  I just don’t want to have to pay for all the stuff he wants to do.

I say Good Luck to him, and to us, and watch him like a hawk.

Let me get this straight Rob. David gave no clear indication if they will or will not let the tax cuts expire in 2010 and as President-elect, Obama has not spoken on the subject either way as well. Yet, you chastise him with an accusation of being a “flip-flopper” on the possibility that he MAY do something in future? Even when you agree with him? I wouldn’t want to see if you give somebody advice and then you chastise them for taking it.

This is more of a personal bitterness towards the man than his policies. Republicans are doomed to fail with this strategy.

Nunez,

Nunez, during the campaign Obama promised to “roll back” the Bush tax cuts.  Now when asked when they’re going to do that, the Obama people are saying they aren’t going to.

That’s a flip-flop.  It’s a broken campaign promise.  That you’re not honest enough to admit that your messiah fooled you is not my fault.

This is more of a personal bitterness towards the man than his policies. Republicans are doomed to fail with this strategy.

This has nothing to do with Obama personally, and everything to do with his policies.

And heck, I’m fine with Obama not raising taxes.  I’d be fine with him breaking every single promise he made on the economy.  But I’m still going to criticize him for being a two-faced politician, because that’s the truth of the matter.

I guess you don’t like the truth.

The purpose of government shouldn’t be to do good, but simply to refrain from doing evil.

I guess you don’t like the truth.

And neither do the left wing nuts that got him elected.

The Daily Kos Et Al, are going BALISTIC at Obama right now.

Prevarication. Never have they said that they “aren’t going to.”

Much of this sentence is based on an assumption that is baseless. Your quip about this “messiah” nonsense is misdirected bitterness. This country has seen the disaster created by a man that you were fooled by for the last eight years and has reacted accordingly.

This is a good thing. He can’t raise taxes in a finacial crisis.

It’s hilarious and disgusting to read here how you sad, sorry, sore-losers—you nut-case, right-wing, condomservative Republicans—can’t stand that you’ve been totally wrong for so long, and you can’t stand to see your ludicrous “base” in disarray.  Instead of tearing down Obama, who is the only intelligent and honorable politician at work today, you should be making recompense for the way in which each and every one of you have attempted to destroy this nation for the past eight years (really longer, since 1994).  Rest assured, you are going to keep losing for as far into the future as you feeble, knee-jerk, hypocritical morons can see.  You deeply deserve the ruins of the GOP you’re sitting in.

That’s not much of an argument there AJ Lenrope.

So much for “Change”.

I’m not sure what A.J. wants. I think he is just spreading his happiness and joy, his coming together, that bipartisianship Pres. elect Obama keeps talking about.

Of course Obama realized this. Raising taxes when the economy is low is idiotic. The only people that Obama is going to piss off is the far left who don’t understand this concept.

BTW, great blog that you have here. I’m looking to add you to my blog roll if you’re willing to add me in return. Let me know.

how bout we wait and see what happens eh? I’m so tired of so many millions of people preaching their ideas to each other on something that they have no power of. quit speaking just to hear your voice…to sound intelligent to your listeners. because..you dont…you cant change someones thoughts on a subject by feeding them yours…arguments are useless along with debates of any kind. lets not ruin converstation…

I’d love to see a bit of the Kos-kids going berserk on Obama.  Can someone post?  (don’t want to actually, you know, VISIT there and have to bathe in the middle of the day!)

It may be the truth, but I won’t stand with you on it. I will not criticize the man for flip flopping, if his flip flop is to my benefit. And if the left hates him for his flip flop….EVEN BETTER!

This country has seen the disaster created by a man that you were fooled by for the last eight years and has reacted accordingly.

This country saw 62 months of CONSTANT growth, which is unheard of. Two years ago, they elected a Democrat congress based on lies and falsehoods, and immediately they enacted policies that hurt the economy and slowed growth. Now we have a “crisis” that will fix itself relatively quickly if left alone.

America elected a politician because he was charismatic and new and black.

My idiot finder is going off like crazy.

It’s all political bullshit. Liberals (and Robert108) lie and spin and twist and obscure and distract and cheat to protect their guys and hurt the opposing team. It’s like wrestling. They distract the ref while their team mate hits you with a chair. There’s no rule they won’t break, no law they won’t skirt, no crime they won’t forgive as long as they can win.

AJ,I kind of hear in the far off distant past, the babblings of a crazed lunitic, Hitler!!
