Obama Administration’s Response To Bush Criticism: “We Won”
And that’s all well and good. They did win. But given the direction the Obama administration is heading, if they don’t start listening to their critics they probably won’t win the next one.
In a speech this week, Bush came off the sidelines for the first time since the beginning of the Obama administration to lob criticisms at Obama for his economic policies and his decision to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Gibbs said Thursday that many of those policies were debated during last year’s election.
“We kept score last November, and we won,” Gibbs said.
I’m not sure that “we won” is a particularly good rhetorical mantra to use against President Bush. Obama may have won, but Bush and Cheney weren’t even on the ballot. The guy Obama beat is a very liberal Republican with policy ideas that, frankly, weren’t all that far off from Obama’s.
So yes. They won. But they’re also blaming everything from the budget deficits to the economy on Bush. Should they be surprised when Bush fires back?
