Obama In 2004: “The Real Crisis…Is Medicare”

Back in 2004 then-President George W. Bush was trying to push through reforms to Social Security, which Democrats beat into the ground as unnecessary (forget that now, eight years later, Social Security is operating in the red and adding to the national debt). Around that time am Illinois state legislator named Barack Obama wondered why it was President Bush was so focused on Social Security.
After all, Medicare was the real crisis.
Interesting words given the orgy of Mediscare rhetoric Democrats have launched at Republicans since Rep. Paul Ryan, he of the blunt talk about entitlement reform, was announced as Mitt Romney’s Vice President.
