Obama Has A Funny Definition Of Extremism

According to President Obama, if elected Mitt Romney would impose “extreme positions” on the nation.

“I can’t speak to Governor Romney’s motivations,” Obama said. “What I can say is that he has signed up for positions, extreme positions, that are very consistent with positions that a number of House Republicans have taken. And whether he actually believes in those or not, I have no doubt that he would carry forward some of the things that he’s talked about.”

Obama is not-so-subtly trying to tie Romney to disgraced Rep. Todd Akin who has immolated his Senate campaign with bizarre comments about rape. But here’s the thing: Republicans have abandoned Akin’s campaign because very few people among Republicans agree with what he said.

And if we want to talk about extremism, how about President Obama? The federal buyout of General Motors was a pretty extreme move. The creation of a Wall Street “pay czar” to manage how much private companies could pay their own employees was pretty extreme. The take over of the health insurance industry, with every American forced to buy health insurance and choose only from government-approved options was pretty extreme, as was the nationalization of student loans that passed along with Obamacare.

Under 3 years and 2 months of President Obama the national debt expanded more than under the entirety of President George W. Bush’s eight years in office, and Bush Jr. had been the worst president in the history of the country when it came to accumulating debt. Obama stole his title in record time.

Now that’s extremism. But, sadly, in American politics the extremists are always those who want to fix problems. Never those who create the problems in the first place.
