NRSC Ad: Heidi Heitkamp Is Nice, But Obama Isn’t Awesome
11:38am
Yes, I know, I’m praising yet another political ad fresh off of discounting their effectiveness at this point in North Dakota’s political cycle earlier this morning, but I like this one from the NRSC because I think it’s the sort of thing that might cut through some of the fatigue.
One of the North Dakotans featured in the ad says she “likes” Heidi Heitkamp, but goes on to say indicate that she doesn’t like Heitkamp’s support for Barack Obama and his policies.
That’s really smart, because the biggest advantage Heitkamp has is that she’s a likable candidate. She’s very, very good at the “kissing babies” aspect of politics, and anything that can even be perceived as a personal attack on Heitkamp is probably going to turn a lot of voters off.
But highlighting Heitkamp’s support for Obama and his policies is going to be effective, especially given how sharply it contrasts with Heitkamp’s “I’m an independent” schtick.
