Now That The Election Is Over, Everyone Thinks Sarah Palin Is Dumb

We’re all hearing this stuff about Sarah Palin being stupid. She didn’t know Africa was a continent. She talked funny. She didn’t always interview well. Media types were able to flummox her and put her on the spot.
And on and on.
Am I the only one thinking that this sudden attack on Palin is a last ditch effort by the GOP status quo to hang on to their power? After this disappointing election cycle many in the Republican party are wondering what happened. How, in the last few years, the GOP has fallen so far. The status quo in the GOP wants to distract the people participating in these ruminations by demonizing a scapegoat.
And Sarah Palin, a newcomer to the national stage and about as outside of Washington politics as you can get, is that person.
It’s a little disgusting, isn’t it? Republicans have fallen out of favor nationally because they didn’t keep the promises they made when they campaigned as conservatives, but now they don’t want to be called out for those broken promises. So they’re going to try and sacrifice Sarah Palin instead.
By the way, Palin’s approval ratings in Alaska are still at 60%. Granted, that’s down from the almost 80% approval she enjoyed before joining McCain’s ticket, but even so that’s a level of approval most politicians in America would envy right now.

I had this same conversation at work early today. She was a positive impact on McCain’s ticket, to the tune of 13% more votes according to Rassmessen. Someone is out to take her down to keep the base of the party in the cellar. Well let me be the 2nd or so to tell them that it aint gonna happen. We will no longer be silent about our beliefs when confronted, nor will we sit back and support folks who don’t vote our way like we did with John.

We will not. We will not. We will not.

They are calling Palin stupid, how about the IDIOT thats going to be running this country in the next 4 years. I would love to be listening in, when oboma binladen climbs aboard airforce 1.3 or muslim airlines and tells the pilot
to head over to the 56th or 57th state for a speach!!!
He dose’nt even know how mant states we have. I would even consider chipping in on postage for a U.S. flag to be sent to him so he can practice counting the stars. Probebly still would’nt know!!!

The status quo does need to change, but not in the direction of Sarah Palin. Her fiscal conservatism belies the fact the Palin is nothing more than extreme manifestation of the Evangelical-constituency pandering that Rove took the party in 2000 — which is everything that is wrong with the party today (and the reason why libertarians cast the obligatory stupid vote for Bob Barr).

    Zsa Zsa,

Well said. I maintain that Biden was chosen because no one takes him, or what he says, seriously and thus he offers no threat to Obama. Kind of a “progressive” non-sexual version of eye candy.

It’s the quislings in the McCain campaign hierarchy.

The demo-crap moles have to try destroy a true conservative.

“Moderates” & “RINOs” have taken the party over just as the commies have taken over the demo-crap party.

This is a perfect example of what happens when a party is co-opted and a purge is not performed. A party-level civil war.

They fear her, therefore they must destroy her….

I’ve been appalled at this, too–George Will even tried to pull the same stunt he did in Harriett Miers. Now I’ve got no quibble with arguing over legitimate qualifications, but this is chicken manure.

The way I see it, Palin was the MOST qualified of the four to be President. She had about a dozen years of executive experience, experience running small businesses, and she and her husband had actually managed to save money on income of less than half of that of any of the other three–while two of the other three had not. She also knew first-hand the consequences of federal mismanagement–specifically via drilling bans in ANWR and elsewhere in Alaska.

Dumb? Not by the standards of the subjects of “The Millionaire Next Door.” Maybe she doesn’t have an Ivy League degree, but then again, neither did Washington, Lincoln, Reagan, Truman, Johnson, Grant, or Jackson. It’s time to stop the tyranny of the Ivy League in our country, as it’s pretty clear that there are some ideas so dumb, they can only be believed by someone from one of our “elite” colleges.

We ignore Biden at our own peril. The man’s telling us the truth about what Obama brings. We do ourselves a disservice by ignoring him.

    Kenny,

Sorry to disagree, but anyone who believed Obama’s $250k figure probably still believes that Obama took that public financing pledge seriously as well.

As for an imminent crisis, only a fool would NOT expect a young, totally inexperienced (at anything!) president not to be tested early on in his tenure, surely within the first year. Indeed, I can’t help but think that there will be several severe tests on the international stage, not to mention an equally severe test by those on the radical “progressive” Left who will insist on payback for their support of Obama, particularly in the primary season, a test for which we will all pay the price.

  • jpe

The cutoff for the first bracket is $161,550. So he was a little under, but his numbers were a hell of a lot closer than Obama’s BS 250k number.

The bottom for the 33% bracket will be 250k.

What intelligent ideas did Sarah Palin come up with?

The problem within the Republican Party IS the elitist pundits who seek to remain relevant at the cost of our own…..

    I’ve said it before….

If ya wanna be a Democrat, leave the party and go BE a Democrat……

“Moderate” is just another way of admitting you have little, or no belief in the conservative values of the GOP…. and constantly try to pull the party into this pointless ideology.

HERE’S A CLUE => CONSERVATIVES DESPISE “MODERATES” & RINOs! THEY DON’T LIKE TO VOTE FOR THEM!

    So leave! GO!

If ya wanna be a “Moderate” just go be a “REAL Democrat“, and stop being a “Closet Democrat“, because that is all that “Moderates” are. You’re a drag on the GOP.

And for the rest of us…..

STOP BEING WIMPS AND LETS TAKE OUR PARTY BACK!!!

I took Biden quite seriously. The man is wrong on a lot, but he’s honest. When he told someone the cap for tax cuts was 150k, HE was right. Obama’s plan would raise the top two brackets. The cutoff for the first bracket is $161,550. So he was a little under, but his numbers were a hell of a lot closer than Obama’s BS 250k number. Biden told us electing Obama will bring about crisis. And he said Democrats need to stand strong because the response is going to look wrong…EVEN TO DEMOCRATS.

We ignore Biden at our own peril. The man’s telling us the truth about what Obama brings. We do ourselves a disservice by ignoring him.

Check out the contribution levels to McCain’s campaign pre and post Palin. Anyone from that campaign organization making anon attacks is definitely a “Rino” and needs to slink off to the woodshed.

But now that we’re discussing what went wrong with the Republican party, I submit that what went wrong began with Rove’s strategy of capturing the Evangelical base, and gradually shifting “conservative” to stand for ignorant, close-minded, and anti-intellectual.

Where is Sarah in this mess..? Because she did not attend an ivy league school perhaps..?

I submit what went wrong was they moved away from the base. They nominated a candidate who spent more time poking conservatives in the eye than he spent encouraging growth of the party. Had he stood up for border security, no driver licenses for illegals, to fully punish those responsible for the economic crisis, and smaller government the outcome would have been different. If that is what you call close minded, then get me a graduation ring and a diploma.

I just fail to see how folks are blaming Sarah. What the heck did she do/say for you to say that..?

    Well spoken, Vulf!

I agree with that sentiment 100 percent.

Since you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I shall spit thee out.
    – Rev. 3:16

I don’t rust McCain and his ilk, who ensured that whatever numerical advantage Republicans had while supposedly in power was nullified by sabotaging their legislation from this side of the aisle.

We need a great blood-letting and RINO-plasty if we are to win the trust of the core of the Republican party back.

From what I have seen thus far, Palin would be great in the revitalized GOP. A great indicator as to how good a Republican any candidate will be, is the degree to how much Leftards hate them.

Now that the election is over, I can ask this: did anyone really believe that she reads The Economist?

I just fail to see how folks are blaming Sarah.

I’m not blaming Palin for this election. McCain had this coming to him because, and you’re right, the only difference between him and Obama was that McCain represented a currently unpopular party.

I am not blaming Palin for anything. I am using her as an example of what else is wrong with the Republican party. Because this is what the Republican party gave us this year:

    1. McCain — A big government regulator who, all of a sudden, pretends to be all about fiscal responsibility.

    2. Palin — An Evangelical demagogue to remind Conservatives that even though, based on McCain’s stances, we can no longer agree on how big the government should be, or how much control it should impose on our liberties, we can all agree, at least, to oppose abortion. You don’t have to be an Ivy Leaguer to see how important that is… don’tcha know.

to stand for ignorant, close-minded, and anti-intellectual

“And how was Reagan treated by the press and the status quo in the Washington-Republican establishment?

Since many of you younger folks wouldn’t know, they tried this same crap with Reagan.”

I voted for Reagan, and Mrs Palin is no Ronald Reagan. Mrs Palin will NEVER be elected because she scare the hell out of the moderates, which is the majority of americans. Mccain was forced by the neo-cons to put her on the ticket and that fired up the ultra conservatives to turn out to vote, but neo-cons will not get her elected alone, they need the moderates. She is in no way dumb, but she is dangerous. There is a reason why america have seperation of church and state. Religion have no place in politics, and any candidate that claim that god is somehow on their side will never get my vote. Her claims of “Real Americans” worry me also, because who is she to decide who is a “Real American” and who is not. I’m not calling her a nazi, but remember they came to power by defining who were “Real Germans” and who was not. They also burned books that did not agree with their idea of a “Real German”. The GOP have to come to terms that they do not have a monopoly on patriotism or god. The leason learned from this election is that candidates like Mrs Palin will no longer be able to seperate americans with fear. Until the GOP learn this, it will be a secondary party, locked in the 1930′s.

This is easy to understand. It’s Office Politics.

You work in the McCain Campaign. You hope to be elected in some other campaign. It’s a good gig. You like Politics.

Your candidate gets waxed. Not good for the ol Resume.

SO, you find the most visible scapegoat possible. Blame it all on her. She screwed it up. She was dumb. She lost the election WE had won (even though it was lost profoundly without her).

She is an honest person. She doesn’t defend herself.

THEY SCREWED UP, SO BLAME HER.

The MSM and Liberals hope they can nail her coffin shut so she never returns. They fear she might. And this time, with a roar. So discrediting goes on.

And, the old boy GOP fears her. She represents the change that is coming to the GOP which I posted on the reader blogs.

    I’m not surprised.

Ladies and Gents. Let’s not be discouraged. We must take the conservative movement back. It was stolen from us.

    Romney isn’t the answer.

Huck is a bit of the answer.

Palin is a part of the answer.

It’s a western libertarian conservative value that this country responds to.

Like the Terminator, Sarah Palin can look in the camera, give us that wink and say, I’ll be Baack.

That will strike terror in the hearts of the Northeastern Republicans and liberals everywhere.

It is pointing to Wallace and Schmidt being the rumormongers, both of whom are not conservatives but political hacks.

I know many people who only started helping the campaign and donating money when Palin was added to the ticket. She is not ‘dumb broad’, which is the entire point of these sexist attacks against her. She was savvy enough to beat Murkowski for governor. I expect she will be re-elected in 2010 and be one of the 2012 candidates. This experience has toughened her up (as witnessed by her statement returning to Alaska, and the fact she weathered such a blistering onslaught by the Left, the media, and now people registered by Republicans who have no principles in common with conservatives).

She may not be the candidate I support in 2012 (I’m looking at Cantor, Jindal, and Johanns) but I sure don’t object to her being on the ticket once again.

The bottom for the 33% bracket will be 250k.

No, the bottom for the now 36% bracket will be between 163,700 and 165,890 as dependant on inflation. Obama’s actual plan says he will raise the two highest brackets, not completely redefine them. His campaign rhetoric was a lie.

    Bat,

I find it hard not to take a man seriously who basically comes out and says “Look, folks, I don’t give a damn what my running mate tells you…this is what our plan ACTUALLY IS. I’ve read it, we’ve gone over it and debated it, this is it.” Biden was Obama’s harshest critic in the primaries, and I think he was trying to sabotage him. If Obama went to jail before being sworn in…I’d be a hell of a lot more comfortable with Biden in Chief.

Biden was the ONLY one who accurately assessed the situation in Iraq, and said “We have to invade, but damn if this occupation isn’t going to suck. We have no strong leader to replace him with, and that will hurt us. But we gotta do it.” And he had the honesty to say nobody had any clue what Saddam would do if we invaded, that it was like “reading the entrails of a goat.”

If given my choice of the four candidates, I’d choose Biden, with Palin as vice.

After the 2006 election when the Republicans drove away control of the House and Senate we hoped the leaders of the parties would straighten out their act.

They didn’t. We got our butts chopped up again.

What is this for? So we can rebuild our majority and it’s not going to be done by playing the same inside Washington game.
