Novak: Armitage Lied

Wowsa….

“When Richard Armitage finally acknowledged last week he was my source three years ago in revealing Valerie Plame Wilson as a CIA employee, the former deputy secretary of state’s interviews obscured what he really did,” Bob Novak claims in a column set for Thursday release.
Novak, attempting to set the record straight, writes: “First, Armitage did not, as he now indicates, merely pass on something he had heard and that he ‘thought’ might be so. Rather, he identified to me the CIA division where Mrs. Wilson worked, and said flatly that she recommended the mission to Niger by her husband, former Amb. Joseph Wilson. Second, Armitage did not slip me this information as idle chitchat, as he now suggests. He made clear he considered it especially suited for my column.”
Novak slams Armitage for holding back all this time.
Armitage’s silence for “two and one-half years caused intense pain for his colleagues in government and enabled partisan Democrats in Congress to falsely accuse Rove of being my primary source,” Novak explains.
“When Armitage now says he was mute because of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s request, that does not explain his silent three months between his claimed first realization that he was the source and Fitzgerald’s appointment on Dec. 30. Armitage’s tardy self-disclosure is tainted because it is deceptive.”

Pretty harsh stuff.
In addition to Novak’s slam of Armitage for causing his colleagues pain and enabling the attacks of partisan Democrats let me also say that his silence wasted a whole lot of tax payer dollars. If he’d come forward we could have bypassed about three years of accusations and pointless Democrat gloating.

Actually we should question Novak’s credibility. He changed his story a number of times and then calls someone else a liar. I’m not sure who to beleive.

  • HG

don’t get so high and mighty when your guys get investigate

It’s kinda hard to accuse me of getting high and mighty over an investigation that is proving to be a farce. I haven’t complained about it until now.

  • 2Hotel9

Novak is a “journalist”, lying is his entire existance, his stock in trade, all he has.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

shel said, The person whose name was leaked was working on WMD proliferation.

    Who again?

Gameplan in the last stages guys: Prolong. Redefine the definition of “covert”. Obfuscate. Blame. Find out you’re wrong. Cover your partisan ass for all it’s worth.

Hope it was fun. Now if you would like to refocus your attention on things that actually matter, make sure to let us know, okay?

  • WOOF

Novak’s version of what Armitage said to him has taken 5 different forms since he first published this leak in July 2003.

    * CIA labels Plame as Counter-Proliferation (CPD)
    * Armitage labels Plame as CPD
    * Armitage doesn’t say anything about CPD
    * Armitage labels Plame as Nuclear Non-Proliferation (not CPD)
    * Armitage labels Plame as CPD

Novak Changes His Story–a Fourth Time

  • robert108

shel: What is your point? Armitage has confessed already. We know this has been a dishonest affair from the beginning, and was used to mount an attack of lying against the administration. Why do you focus on Novak? The bad guys here are the ones who used this to mount a bogus attack on people for purely political purposes. There was no truth to the attacks on Rove and Cheney. Don’t you get that?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

Yeah,..but more importantly – how does it taste?

You guys hinged so much on the wish that Rove was the leaker of this non-covert “covert” agent.

You can’t even say that all available evidence pointed to him. It was all just a partisan game to you.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

I would like to hear from Puzzlefeet, “realitybased”bob, WOOF and others who had their heads up their asses on this one.

    Explain yourselves.

  • 2Hotel9

Yep, r108, puzzledfool, and all leftards, have that by the truck load.

  • HG

He still leaked the information to Novak as well and was properly investigated.

Nice accusation. If true, we should have an idictment, right?

  • HG

    Shel,

According to Armitage. Fitzgerald new he leaked when he started the investigation, and told Armitage to keep quiet. The whole investigation appears to be a witch hunt. The best libs could get was a perjury charge, but that was better than Armitage coming clean and ending the witch hunt.

  • robert108

shel: Try to ask real questions, instead of loading them up with biased premises.

OK robert108 let’s go the Fitzgerald route. Are you saying that he shouldn’t have started the investigation? The person whose name was leaked was working on WMD proliferation. That’s not important to national security?

I wasn’t saying anything of the kind, but you do make a good point. Fitz knew about Armitage, according to Armitage himself, right at the beginning of the investigation. In other words, he knew who did the “leaking”, but went ahead anyway with his broad brush approach, calling in all sorts of people to testify. According to Armitage, it wasn’t even a leak, but more of casual gossip. We can be sure that Fitz knew this, as well.
Plame was not covert under the statute, which is why Fitz admitted, finally, that there was no underlying crime. Understand now?

  • robert108

    P:

don’t get so high and mighty when your guys get investigate

Au contraire! It was the Dems and the MSM who got high and mighty when they went after people on the basis of falsehood and smear. I remember their self-righteous tone very well.

  • shel

2Hotel9, I’m afraid you would not like to hear my answer to your question. Here’s a hint. Who was it that Libby said authorized him to selectivly disclose portions of the NIE(classified) to Judith Miller?

  • puzzlefeet

Not enough evidence maybe, doesn’t mean he didn’t do it.

  • shel

OK robert108 let’s go the Fitzgerald route. Are you saying that he shouldn’t have started the investigation? The person whose name was leaked was working on WMD proliferation. That’s not important to national security?

  • HG

Novak Changes His Story–a Fourth Time

    Woof,

Give it up. Now it’s Novak who lacks credibility?
Who was the leaker? Oh ya, Armitage. You libs are so predictable.

  • HG

    Shel,

Hello! Armitage admitted he leaked. There is no mystery here. Whether or not Novak changed his story doesn’t change Armitage’s admition.

  • 2Hotel9

r108, pretty much all of that. shel is purposefully obtuse, it is a favored tactic of leftards.

  • shel

I’m wondering why Novak keeps changing his version of this event.

  • robert108

P: The Clinton investigations were based on credible evidence, where this one was phony from the beginning. The Clinton investigations turned up quite a few indictments and convictions, as well, unlike this one. Not the same at all.
    Armitage confessed; game over.

  • robert108

Two: I think it’s called: “When caught, change the subject.”

  • shel

HG, Why do you get so upset with me when I just want some clarification? That doesn’t seem so wrong to me.

  • 2Hotel9

shel, Plame was not across the water working as a covered asset. That is the point. Fitzgerald is looking more and more the perjorative ass, the only prosecution he has moved forward is against a non-involved individual who could not remember the chronology and content of a conversation 3 years before he was questioned. Exactly who do you think should be prosecuted for all this?

  • puzzlefeet

    Credible evidence? Bwaaahhhaaaaaaaa

  • robert108

shel: It’s not Novak’s credibility in question here; it’s Fitzgerald’s, the MSM’s and the entire Dem Party’s credibility in using this lie for political advantage. What part of that don’t you understand?

  • robert108

    P:

    Credible evidence? Bwaaahhhaaaaaaaa

It was enough to secure 17 convictions, if memory serves. I call that credible. How many did Fitz get?

  • puzzlefeet

Hey you notice that Novak said that Rove wasn’t his “primary source”. He still leaked the information to Novak as well and was properly investigated.

And just because she was not across the water working doesn’t make her any less a covert operative. The CIA decides covert operative status. And apparently they said she was.

  • shel

Some of the commenters may not beleive this, but I have enjoyed this discussion and may have even learned a few things. I do appreciate those who were civil to me. Good Evening.

  • HG

    Puzzle,

Not enough evidence maybe, doesn’t mean he didn’t do it.

In the liberal world, republicans are guilty even after they are proven innocent. Unreal.

  • HG

Did Plame/Wilson drop their suit against Libby, Cheney and Rove? I know their suing Armitage now.

  • puzzlefeet

Hey, HG, it didn’t stop you guys of accusing and investigating everything under the sun with Clinton. So don’t get so high and mighty when your guys get investigate. Take a look at the new book ‘Hubris’ by Michael Isikoff, then come back and let’s have a discussion on this leak issue and Rove’s involvement.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

Hey, HG, it didn’t stop you guys of accusing and investigating everything under the sun with Clinton. So don’t get so high and mighty when your guys get investigate.

In other words: “you did it too”.

And just like a little kid, you provide no context.

  • shel

I thought I was being civil during this discussion. What’s with name calling and personal insults?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

It was enough to secure 17 convictions…

puzzlefeet finds that funny and will now maniacally laugh as she dismisses the facts laid before her.

She’s an older woman who supposedly should have this thing called “experience” and “wisdom”. I don’t know about the rest of ya’ll, but I’d say that she missed those trains.

  • robert108

Feelings interfere with the ability of the brain to process information. It’s called emotional reactivity.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Hey, HG, it didn’t stop you guys of accusing and investigating everything under the sun with Clinton.

Puzzle, how about instead of obscuring what your side did and trying to deflect criticism with this “you did it too crap,” why don’t you take responsibility for all stuff Rove, etc. went through and apologize for all but trying to impeach Bush over this?

That’s what a responsible person would do.
