Noted Philanderer, Sexual Harasser And Serial Adulterer To Stump For Heidi Heitkamp Today

Here’s a fun North Dakota fact about Bill Clinton: He’s not well liked in North Dakota. In 1992, when he first ran for president, he was defeated by George H.W. Bush by twelve points (with Ross Perot pulling 23 points from both candidates). In 1996, though he won by a larger margin nationally, Clinton lost North Dakota by 17 points to Bob Dole.

Something to keep in mind as state Democrats make a public display of wetting themselves over Clinton’s visit.

When I learned last night that Bill Clinton was going to be stumping for Heidi Heitkamp in Fargo today my thoughts immediately turned to this web ad from Heitkamp, linking to this fundraising page on her campaign website, which was running on the internet early in the race:

The ad is, in and of itself, pretty despicable. Attacks on women? Please. Heitkamp may disagree with Berg’s pro-life position, among other issues, but accusing him of “attacking women” is pretty low for a candidate who has tried to portray herself as above petty partisan mudslinging like this.

But it’s also ironic that, as she seeks to right her listing campaign ship after a week of ugly polling, she’s calling in a former President whose political career is littered with incidents with women that, while maybe can’t be called outright attacks are certainly not representative of how men should treat women. Bill Clinton betrayed his wife, again and again, and use his position of power to take advantage of women around him.

I predict that Clinton’s visit will do little to turn things around for Heitkamp.
