Not A Lot Of Love For McCain Among Fiscal Conservatives In Washington DC
I’m here at the Americans for Prosperity’s Defending the American Dream summit, and it sure is fun to be among a lot of other fiscal conservatives.
Being with these fiscal conservatives, there’s one thing I’ve noticed again and again both from the summit attendees and some of the speakers themselves: Nobody is excited about John McCain.
Which probably isn’t surprising, but you would think that less than a month before the election, with Barack Obama poised on the cusp of victory, that there would be a lot of people starting to hold their noses and supporting McCain.
That doesn’t appear to be happening. And for a lot of these people, I don’t think it’s going to happen. Given the sentiments I’m seeing from the conservatives on hand here at this event in Washington DC - and make no doubt about it, this is one of the largest groups of fiscal conservatives in the nation - McCain doesn’t have the support of the base.
And because of that, I don’t think he’s going to win this election.
That may not be a terrible thing, either. President Obama isn’t going to be a good thing by any stretch of the imagination, but it may take losing the White House and losing more ground in Congress for Republicans to get themselves back on track.
