North Dakota’s “Stand Your Ground” Bill To Be Voted On This Week

A couple of weeks ago I posted on North Dakota’s House Bill 1319 which removes from state law the requirement that a citizen must first try to flee an assailant before using deadly force to defend himself/herself.

Rep. Todd K. Porter has emailed me to note that the bill will be coming to the floor for a vote some time this week.  He state’s that there is some heavy opposition coming from the “grab the guns” crowd, so any pressure we can bring to bear on our legislators would go a long way toward getting this thing passed.

Remember that versions of this law have already been passed in several states - like Florida, as an example - and none of the dire consequences much-touted by opponents of this legislation have come to pass there.

If you value your gun rights, and you value your right to self defense, please click here to find the contact information for your legislators and let them know how you feel.  It’s very easy to do.  The legislators are very responsive to communications sent by email, so even just a few quick sentences to your particular legislators about this bill can have a big impact.

Thanks Tom.
