North Dakota State Government Advertising For Regional Commissar

Why does the word “commissar” jump into my head when I read this job listing for a regional economic develop coordinator put out by the North Dakota state government?

Region IV Economic Development Manager/Planner Needed:
The Red River Regional Council, a four-county planning and development council of northeast North Dakota, is seeking an Economic Development Manager/Planner.
Major duties of the position consist of managing three existing loan programs, assist in developing new economic development programs, regional development planning, business plan development, preparation of reports, working with economic development boards.
The position provides an excellent fringe benefits package. Salary range is $45,000 to $55,000.
A Masters Degree in economics, planning, finance or business administration is preferred.

America is supposed to be a free market society, no? If so, then why on earth do we have regional bureaucrats tasked with managing the local economy?

The above is an oxymoron; as well as just moronic.

See how easily fooled you are? Most of the freeloaders masquerading as Republicans in this state, are “faux Republicans.”

    Someone wisely observed:
Rule #2 of Conservative orthydoxy: When republicans or conservatives lose or fail, they weren’t “real” conservatives.

Rule #1: Conservatives are the victims of a biased media when they lose. As if the media counts the ballots.

For the same reason there’s a state owned mill and bank; most people in North Dakota live off of the taxes of others!

I understand your position. But should an opportunity like this, to expose govt mismanagement, be passed?

You’re the fourth liberal to mention that on the blog today.
Did you gets get a new talking points email today or something?

Quit complaining, apply for the position, then report any and all excesses, thefts, and irregularities.

I don't think the position should exist, because unlike socialists and fascists I don't think economies should be managed by the government.

Wow Kevin!!! A predominantly Conservative/Republican state, and most people in North Dakota live off on the state teat? You finally exposed those right wing rascals that are masquerading for Democrats.

Nowhere does it say "manage the economy."

What they want is someone to manage money stolen by the federal government and returned to the region in a form they call "grants." Don't blame the local region who is forced to provide plans to the feds to get their share.

I don't like it either but the dollars are there and available, so the region should do what is needed to get it. I guess Robin Hood requires paperwork in order to give to the poor. :-)

I don't see that the money belonging to the federal government makes it any different. We all pay federal taxes too.

And as far as I know this is a state job offered by the Hoeven-created Commerce Department. Want to know what their state budge is?

It's in the tens of millions, and it's entirely unnecessary.

Oh, and by the way, having a bureaucrat or a public/private board pick which businesses get special treatment and which don't is, in fact, managing the economy.

And by the way, people who want bigger government aren't, in fact, conservatives.

This is reality. It'd be nice if you paid a visit now and then.
