North Dakota Senate Passes Ban On Bottle Rockets

Yes. Bottle rockets. Because the Senate apparently didn’t have anything better to do today.
North Dakota may be a “red state,” but we love nanny staters up here.

Bottle rocket lovers may no longer be able to buy them in North Dakota during the Fourth of July holiday.
The North Dakota Senate voted on Wednesday to ban fireworks stands from selling bottle rockets. The vote was 35-11 in favor, and there was no debate.
Senators approved a similar ban two years ago, but it was defeated in the North Dakota House.

I would hope this nonsense would be defeated in the state House once again.

If I recall correctly, the House almost passed a similar bill two years ago also. I think it only failed by one or two votes, so I wouldn’t hold out much hope for them to kill this silly legislation.

Since the legislature has decided they’re now in charge of protecting us from all things unsafe, I’ll sleep much better tonight. Thank you so much.

this is bullshit you can still buy the larger rockets, theres no difference heres another freedom down the crapper

  • jon spencer

Bet they will be sold on the reservations though.

  • Hannitized

who said this is coming from the right? our ‘righties’ up here want to centralize as much government and cash as they can get their grubby hands on. these tools are basically closet liberals.

Wow. You really missed the point bro.

Rob is complaining about the law, yet half of you guy cheered Pilgrim on for lecturing people for having dangerous reptiles in the home.

    So the point stands.

Further, I live in Hawaii and not only can we shoot bottle rockets and m80s, but we can shoot fireworks such as roman candles and many sky rockets…if you get a permit first.

So I doubt it was the liberals in the ND state that voted for this.

That God! That's one less problem to solve.

As an aspiring bottle rocket bootlegger, I'm counting on it passing. /sarcasm

They took away everything but sparklers here in the dystopian workers' paradise of CT years ago. Busybody nannystaters, socialist self-supremacists, etc. all thought it would be a great idea. Largely because most of those people have the money to vacation in states where fireworks are legal and they can always bring them back with them. People who couldn't get out of town, they could do without.

Well, a couple years back they extended the sparkler definition to those roman candle like ones that shoot sparks but there's been talk of redoing that ban because we're all too stupid and immature to be trusted by the government whose power, cough cough, goes away the instant we cease obeying them.

Good thing books on the chemistry of fireworks and explosives are still legal. We can at least dream of operating our own fireworks company as we wait for the day for everyone to wake up to how fascist this country is becoming.

People with only one eye, pay less in taxes.
    Government bureaucrats can't risk that!

No doubt they didn't make it illegal to sell bottle rockets on the rez, huh?
Whatever…. just another way for the Indians to monopolize the market on something else.
Fireworks have been illegal in WA for years … except on the rez.
    Grr….

We need to pass a law banning the North Dakota Legislature. And the sooner this is accomplished, the better for everyone. Do you know of any greater threat to our wallets, freedoms, liberty, health and liberty than this crew?

More freedoms have been loss in the name of public safety than any other thing in modern world history. No invading army can cause as much damage to personal liberty.

You can't have sparklers in California. Someone might touch a hot wire and get burned! Imagine my surprise when I moved to Ohio a few years back and saw sparklers the size of young willow trees for sale in local gas stations and convenience stores!

This is a crime. When we were kids it was great fun in winter to go out in the woods armed with bottle rockets a bottle and cigarette lighter. It's winter, we were all bundled up. And we wore face masks and goggles.

We would face off, behind trees, snowbanks etc and fire away. You really scored if you hit your opponent and it blew up on them.

I know OSHA would have hated this, but man those were the days.

Now, someday I'll relate dynamite fishing in the Jim River near Oakes.

North Dakota Legislators take away all our fun. Besides, who really needs two eyes?

so the old white guys are fed up with young whippersnappers and all their late night shenanigans again, huh? well, this time they'll fix those rotten kids!!!!

    Well done.

  • welder4

Today it will be bottle rockets , tomorrow it may be birthday poppers .What next my my . Where oh where will it stop. Don't you just get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that we are protected by our officials from bodily harm and such .

  • Hannitized

Wait…i thought having dangerous things in the house where kids are present are bad. You know, like big snakes.

But explosives and things that can cause fires to your or other peoples property. Not so much?

Consistency is not one the characteristics of the right.

Whereas coherence and understanding are not apparently, the characteristics of the Left!

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds!

you realize if you were a kid today your mom and dad would go to before social services for this, right?

  • Mickey

In my state it is legal to buy and sell fireworks but illegal to actually use them. I suppose that protects the state from any law suit. It rarely gets enforced by the police.

Heh. I still have scars from bottle rocket fights. We didn't go out with goggles though, pansy. We played in the summer straight from the pool still in our bathing suits. The wet hair prevented a lot of damage.

I remember those, they used to be so much fun.
