North Dakota House Majority Leader Trying to Duck Blame for Out of Control Spending

Scott Hennen had ND House Majority Leader Al Carlson on his show this morning for a short while. He was on to give a wrap up of the disastrous legislative session that just ended this week.
One of the first things out of his mouth was that he was uncomfortable with the amount he spent. He said he wouldn’t have done it but he just didn’t have the votes.
Excuse me. He’s the majority leader, he voted for the legislation, he has no record of opposing anything, but he comes back to his home town after breaking the bank and tries to weasel out of what he did.
It doesn’t work that way. He’s one of the people MOST to blame for the debacle. Not only is he majority leader but if you look at his assignments before he took that job he was heavily into the spending side; budget and appropriations and things like that.
This didn’t just sneak up on him.
Come on Al, stand up and take credit for the untold damage you did.
I had sent Scott Hennen an email with a couple questions that should be asked. One of them was what’s going to happen if the oil money runs out, like every other boom in the state’s history. Are they going to cut spending or jack up taxes? I also thought he should be put on the spot for throwing so much more money at the higher education system while not doing anything to roll back tuition increases.
Why do we have a universities? Is it to help the kids or make cushy jobs for the faculty and administration? I think the Republicans in charge of the state government should be answering that question, if they dare?
I know the numbers don’t look good, but we need to kick out each and every incumbent in state politics that didn’t stand up and yell STOP THIS MADNESS.
Why support Republicans when they act like Democrats? That’s the question Al Carlson should answer. Tags: North Dakota News
