North Dakota Honors…Bono?

Did this really happen?  Did North Dakota’s legislature really honor Bono?  Has Bono ever actually set foot in this state?  Are we really honoring a guy who jet-sets around the world telling everyone to pay more in taxes so we can help the poor while he simultaneously hides his riches from the tax man in the Netherlands?

And did this liberal doofus really just try to get away with using “fly” to describe this event, as though it were 1992 again and he were making a guest appearance on In Living Color?

What sort of a bizarro-world Saturday is this?

Yep.  Crazy bills.

The only thing crazier is the fact that Bono and Jesse Helms are buds.

Not only are they friends, but the Irish rocker and archconservative former North Carolina senator also share a common cause: fighting AIDS in Africa.

Before U2 opened to a raucous crowd of 17,000 at the city’s new downtown arena, Bono had dinner with Helms.

“He (Bono) called us a couple of weeks ago and said he wanted to see his old friend the senator,” said John Dodd, president of the Jesse Helms Center, who accompanied Helms and other family members to Monday’s meeting.

Since they were introduced several years ago, the Republican Helms and Bono have become close allies in the fight against the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

Helms, who is 84 and suffers from a number of serious health problems, arrived backstage before the show and was joined by Bono for a casual meal. On the menu: grilled chicken, roast beef and salmon.

I don’t think Bono should have been honored like this.  He’s never done anything for North Dakota, I don’t think he’s ever been to North Dakota, it’s a waste of our legislative time (and thus our tax dollars) and the dude’s a total hypocrite.

I’ll buy his big-government philanthropy when he quits hiding his money in tax shelters.

This action is worth a cheer in a perverted sense: while the legislature are busying themselves with this bullshit, they’re not in your wallets looking for new ways to tax you.

Well, if you consider that it costs over $12,000 in administrative costs to run EACH bill thru the system start to finish - they are always in your wallet.

BTW, the legislature has proposed a billiong dollars in new spending MORE than Hoeven’s plan.  If these people had their way we would go from an almost $600 million surplus to a $400 million deficit.

There’s a $44 million ethanol handout that just went thru - SB 2288 is the one.

It’s crazy.

You sure it wasn’t a resolution commending Bonobos? That would make more sense coming from Kelsh.

The ND legislature and Bono have a least one thing in common; they both love to play the part of big shots with other people’s money.
