North Dakota Democrats On Rove For Visiting State Instead Of Hurricane

While President Bush is called a “political opportunist” for spending too much time focused on hurricane response national and North Dakota Democrats criticized Karl Rove for visiting the state instead of “staying at his post.”

A senator from New Jersey is criticizing White House adviser Karl Rove for planning to attend a North Dakota fundraiser the same day Hurricane Rita is expected to hit Texas.
Democrat Frank Lautenberg sent a letter to President Bush Friday saying “it would be expected that Mr. Rove would be at his post ’24/7′ during this crisis.”
Rove is scheduled to attend a Fargo fundraiser for the North Dakota Republican Party on Saturday. He also is scheduled to speak with Gov. John Hoeven, who some Republicans are pushing to challenge Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad.
Rove is White House deputy chief of staff and Bush’s top political adviser.
“There will be plenty of time for fundraising,” Lautenberg said in the letter to Bush. “But for now, putting lives back together and rebuilding communities must take priority over building political war chests.”
[...]
“Rove is putting politics over people,” said Rick Gion, a spokesman for the state Democratic Party. “What is he doing politicking in North Dakota when the people of the Gulf Region need his help?”

You can read more of Gion’s nonsense here, specifically, and here (just click and scroll as its all ND Dems have been talking about of late).
Its amazing how petty these people can be, isn’t it? As though Karl Rove’s presence in Washington D.C. were neccessary for response to hurricane Rita. Really, what can he do from his post with regard to direct response?
This whole thing is silly and really, I think, more indicative of fear over Conrad getting routed by Hoeven in the next election than anything else.

So that’s reason to keep up the smear machine.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

And what did Mr. Rove supposedly do?

If you’re referring to the Plame affair I think the smoking gun (as reported in the NY Times) was when he said “That’s what I heard too.”

You suppose they’ll even give him a trial?

  • Dave

    And Senator Conrad’s priorities?

Killing puppies and eating babies. Please, ND citizens: Vote for Hoeven.

I’d have a lot more respect for Lautenberg and Co. if they criticized Rove’s visit because…. you know…. the whole “Satan” thing. ;) But that’s just me. :)

This may, and should, hurt Hoeven’s chances when Rove finally gets arrested. If I were a politician, I would stay as far away from Mr. Rove as possible right now.

Kent Conrad was in Grand Forks Friday just when Hurricane Rita was imminent.

I’m sure the country would have been better off if he would have stuck to his desk in the Hart building.

  • Dave

What I suppose matters naught. What the public perceives matters greatly; if they perceive Rove as a criminal, Hoeven will be hurt by appearing with him. Just my .02

Dave said, Please do not make me use this site’s search engine to check for your posts on “Whitewater” and “Hillary Clinton”.

Could you go ahead and do that Dave?

    Thanks.

A spokesman for [Senator] Conrad echoed criticism by Lautenberg and Gion.

“I find Karl Rove’s sense of priorities very curious,” said Chris Thorne.

    And Senator Conrad’s priorities?

  • Dave

I see…so I’m responsible for what all the other Republicans and/or conservatives say? Does that mean I can lump you in with a group of people and hold you responsible for everything they say?

No. It occurred to me that if I didn’t include “or other Republicans/conservatives” in my post, someone would say that Republicans never connected Hillary Clinton to Whitewater.

  • Dave

Dave I wasn’t trying to argue with you. With what’s been reported Rove’s done nothing illegal or unusual.

But Bush’s enemies are going to keep throwing out charges exactly for what I quoted you in.

Pushing charges with no proof = smearing in my book.

Gotcha. But that’s just how the game is played.

  • Sigivald

Huh. And here I thought Rove was a deputy chief of staff and an advisor.

You know, someone with, in effect no direct political power at all. He can’t give orders to Federal agencies, for example.

One wonders what Mr. Gion thinks Rove’s actual political powers are? And what basis those beliefs have in reality?

  • Dave

So that’s reason to keep up the smear machine.

Damn you, Republican Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, for “smearing” Mr. Rove!

That’s right. Because its not so much a matter of Rove actually being a criminal but rather that the charges against him are serious.

Yes, that’s how politics works in the United States. It does not matter wheter the charges are real or not; all that matters is that the voters believe you’ve broken the law.

Please do not make me use this site’s search engine to check for your posts on “Whitewater” and “Hillary Clinton”. (And, if by chance you haven’t written about that, we both know Republicans and conservatives have.)

  • Steve L.

Really, what can he do from his post with regard to direct response?

You seem to forget that Rove is the all-knowing Master of Time, Space and Dimension.

He can do whatever he wants.

    I agree!

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Better be nice to him then.

  • ICallMasICM

Damn those GOPee-ers, trying to win!

I never posted on Whitewater, and because it happened before I took an interest in politics I’ve never really bothered to learn what it was all about.

If somebody else posted about it here I’m not aware of it.

And, if by chance you haven’t written about that, we both know Republicans and conservatives have.
