North Dakota Boy Going National

From KXMA News:

Ed Schultz plans to start a national talk show in January.
Schultz is the host of KFGO's "News and Views," which is aired across North Dakota.

Democratic lawmakers are helping to raise money for the show, which will be broadcast both out of Fargo and Washington, D.C.

Senator Byron Dorgan says talk radio is dominated by conservatives, and that Schultz can fill a void.
Former Republican Governor Ed Schafer says he's happy that a North Dakotan has a chance to succeed beyond the state's borders.

But he says Schultz's ratings have slipped since he turned from a conservative to a liberal talk show host.
The show is being marketed by Jones Radio, which syndicates about 600 programs, and Media Syndication Services, a radio production company.

Paul Woodhull is president of Media Syndication Services. He says listeners have an instant reaction to Schultz. He says they will either love him or hate him, but they will listen to him.

I am very sorry that the latest entry into national talk radio is Ed Schultz. I am also very sorry that Schultz will be representing my state on the national stage. Originally Schultz had a decidedly conservative bent to his radio broadcast. For whatever reason he switched. Though he claims to be "independent" make no bones about it, Schultz is a liberal.

On his show he claims to show both sides of every issue. While he allows callers and guests to voice opinions from both sides of the fence he is only argumentative with conservatives. He is almost excusively critical of conservatives.

Just before the drug issue struck Rush Limbaugh, Rush's show was put on directly after Schultz's News and Views. The rage was apparent in his voice as each day his show became more and more a simple diatribe against everything Rush had to say. He has accused Rush of being a pawn used by the Bush family and the GOP. Looking at his switch from conservatism to liberalism and the support he's receiving from the democratic party I can't see where he has much room to talk.

I would not have a problem with Schultz if he would just come out and admit to being a liberal. Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk hosts admit that they are conservatives every day, why won't Schultz fess up? All of his arguments fall right along Democratic party lines.

If Rush is a pawn for the Republican party then Schultz is nothing more than a checker for the Democrats.

Hi Son.  I no longer listen to Ed Schultz.  The only thing I’ve heard him say that I agree with is that North Dakota has good baseball.  His wrathful, critical remarks to some of his callers adds unneeded tension in my life.  Keep up the good work Bunny

Hi there!  Another MAJOR liberal talk host who has gone into National Syndication along with Schultz is RANDI RHODES.  Check out her show.  She has the #1 show in the South Florida market - over ALL other formats… not just talk radio.

Check out her website at http://www.therandirhodesshow.com and see what she is all about.  She knows Schultz and has mentioned him in a very positive way on her show a few times… until Schultz completely ignored her this past week in Washington, D.C. where the heavy hitters were helping them both raise some money for their syndication.  Schultz apparently thought that they were there for only him, and that he was the King of Kings…

Schultz will need to learn that he is a small fish in a very big pond, and will have to realize that this is not all about him… it is about getting the word out about liberals and Democrats in a unified voice to fight the right-wing power agenda in the media today.

So give Randi a listen… either on LIVE on her site (3p-7p ET M-F) or through a listener-run archives page at http://www.geocities.com/randirhodesarchives - you will see that she is the REAL DEAL and that there is MUCH MORE going on than Schultz’s Me-First attitude…

I don’t know anything about this Randi Rhodes character.  I will check her out.  I’m not sure I’ll like her if she’s got a liberal message though.

You’re right, in North Dakota Schultz is a big fish in a small pond.  He’s revered here but really has nobody to challenge him.  I’m not sure he can succeed on a national level.

Ed has always been
very selfish and a heavy me, I person.
His ego is enormous and very sickening. His temper is the same.
These two will cause his failure.
Plus, he is afraid to be labeled a liberaland thats what the Dems want for the 1.8 million dollars they have raised so far, is for top notch liberal talk show hosts to go national. No tricks, no games.
Al Franken is doing it with another stronger better group.
But Ed is a different breed. He needs to go National so he can finally be knocked down to size as its true about the big fish in a North Dakota pond. But North Dakota is very very tiny. The United States is very very big and in that pond he is a very tiny
bullhead. The sharks will ignore him at first and than have him for lunch.
You cant succeed in this day and age as a leader, a communicator by being consevative for years and years and than changing to be a liberal just a year ago.It doesnt work. He has zero credability. He has pissed off all of the conservative people who liked him before. And the diehard liberal will be able to catch him often trying to play down the middle. He calls it progressive
like in communist.
No network, no big liberal dollars and people will back and invest in a conservative turned
progressive who doesnt want to be called liberal.
Plus he has a lot of poor baggage. He has pissed off many people. He has stepped hard on them and never says Im sorry but rather laughs at them. The worse kind of person. He calls Governor Hoeven a"empty suit”. He calls our President...a phoney fake. That is not funny. He is a wacko
trying to make some money by going national. Its personal ego and greed only plus he could be running scared. As his radio show on KFGO and thge ratings have slipped considerably
mainly because there is a much better brighter conservative talk show host on his competition WDAY whgich is owned by the Fargo Forum whom he attacks daily.
His employer Clear Channel is not happy with his high pay, contract and no work, always gone
style. He has a weak
General Manager who is ready to retire
and could care less so he lets him run the show at KFGO.
And he does, very poorly. Poor communication skills with other staffers.
Poor management ability. Poor leader. He acts like a pig to them and he doesnt care. So all of the staff there cant stand the man. Plus, he is gone all the time. Goes on month long vacations. Goes hunting when ever he wants. Goes to Wash DC many times a year. Doesnt ask just goes and does as if he is the owner. that wears very thin after awhile. And now he is going National so that means he will be gone more, longer
and out of focus
with his local employer, his state, his people, his city and he will be overworked trying to do 6 hours a day on the radio. We know of no good radio host commentator in the world who does a six hours a day show. Why? Because
they burn out. It is too long, too much to keep a audience entertained. But, he plans to. See that ego emerging again.
I wouldnt be surprised if his employer lets him go at end of year.Based on declining ratings, a staff morale problem, and a new General Manager philosphy that requires his employees to be accountable and toe the line, his line.
Ed could not handle that alone. He probaly knows this will happen at years end so decided to get out before he was embarrassed .
Whatever...it will be fun to watch him sink.

Its not a question of wanting Schultz to fail but rather knowing that his radio program will.  Funding a radio show through a political party is not exactly a recipe for success.

And I’d ve very quiet about “dissenting opinions.” Last time I checked the only people Schultz has had on his show are Democrats.  That’s not exactly a balanced discussion.

I can understand why the Republicans desperately want Ed Schultz to fail. They do not want a dissenting opinion. They want one and only one point of view available to gullible listeners who cannot think for themselves.
