North Dakota’s Silly Ban On Election-Day Electioneering Needs To End

This tweet from Forum Communications reporter Kristen Daum reminds me that on tomorrow’s election day North Dakotans will once again have their 1st amendment rights violated by the state’s silly anti-electioneering law:

In the past, when I’ve had election signs on my property, I’ve always left them up. Because it’s my right to.

The premise behind this law is that some voter, on their way to the polls, might spy a yard sign from one of the candidates or regarding one of the issues on the ballot and change their votes. Which is not only ridiculous because there’s nothing wrong with voters being persuaded at the last minute, but also ridiculous because these days we have early voting. Thousands of voters have already been going to the polls for some time now, but only on election day we have a ban on electioneering?

Ridiculous. The law needs to go.
