North Dakota’s Most Biased Reporter Is Leaving The State
3:55pm
Fargo Forum reporter Kristen Daum, easily the most relentlessly biased reporter in the state, will soon be leaving her post in Fargo and heading to Michigan were perhaps her marked distaste for Republicans and conservative politics will be better appreciated.
So excited about the next adventure in my life: I’ve accepted a job covering Michigan’s state government for the Lansing State Journal.

My last day at The Forum will be Sept. 5. It’s been an interesting ride for the past three years, but time to move on!

Political reporting in North Dakota will be better for the absence of Ms. Daum, though this is a real blow to Democrats who really had Daum’s ear. Whether it was ludicrous stories about Senate candidate Rick Berg being fiscally irresponsible because he loaned his campaign some money or Daum “fact checking” pro-Republican campaign ads but not pro-Democrat ads, she was a real asset to the leftist cause in the state and earned herself a pretty bad reputation.
The Democrats are going to miss her.
That being said, this has become typical in the world of North Dakota journalism. A young reporter and inexperienced reporter moves to North Dakota from out-of-state, produces largely naïve and incurious reporting for a couple of years (usually with a large journalism school chip on their shoulder), and then moves on. Rarely do we see any of them stay here for a significant amount of time and build up the knowledge and experience it takes to cover stories well.
