North Dakota’s Has 13,134 More Jobs Than Unemployed People
11:23am
The not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for North Dakota was 2.4% in September. That’s down .4% from the 2.8% rate from October, and down .5% from September 2011.
According to the report, there are just 9,235 people who are in the labor force (counted as looking for work) and unemployed. That is a really, really low number but just to put it into perspective according to the September Job Openings report there are 22,369 openings in the state. I called the folks at North Dakota Job Service this morning, and they told me that they do their best to aggregate all open jobs in the state (even those not listed with Job Service) so that’s a fairly inclusive number.
So if every single person counted as looking for work but currently unemployed suddenly got a job in North Dakota, we’d still have 13,134 unfilled job openings. And probably more, since there are probably a few job openings that slip through the cracks.
That’s astounding.
Clearly, we need more people to move to North Dakota.
