Non Sequitor of the Day

First one to spot the non sequitor wins bragging rights.  (No monetary value).

Ontario Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty said Wednesday that he does not want to see the provinces’ schools resort to installing metal detectors and having uniformed security officers patrol the halls in the wake of Tuesday’s fatal stabbing at a Toronto high school.

Such a move, he said, would amount to the Americanization of schools in Ontario.

“I see that as an absolute last resort,” Mr. McGuinty told reporters during an election campaign stop.

Instead, he said, Ontario needs to distinguish itself from the United States by imposing an outright ban on hand guns.

“Let’s ban handguns in Ontario,” he said. “Let’s ban handguns across the country. Let’s declare war against handguns.”

A 16-year-old Scarborough youth was stabbed to death on Tuesday on a walkway leading from Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute.

Why stop at guns?

Take this guy’s suggestion from the comments section of the story.

Sharp, pointy gun??

Those who think the party or the country, will be “taught a lesson” by handing the levers of power over to the liberals will learn a lesson, but it will be at the expense of our country and her liberties. And there are no guarantees that the party or the country will come out stronger, more conservative or better positioned to win elections against the incumbent liberals.

OMG ... Whistler, I can’t believe you actually got me to laugh from reading about some kid being killed. You are sooo bad!

The non sequitur was blaming guns for a stabbing death.

Lefties lie; it’s all they have.

Banning guns will only lead to more stabbings.  Try stabbing someone in Texas.

Never bring a knife to a gun fight.

You know how many people died in traffic accidents today?

Horrible.

I think we should ban cars.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

You know how many people died of old age today?

We should ban being old.

We should ban being old.

I’ll drink to that.  Unfortunately, the ban would come a little late for me.

Ban handguns because someone was stabbed???  The tragedy is that many in Canada and the USA (mostly liberals) will not see the fallacy in that statement.

Being liberal is never having to admit you’re wrong

Par for the course. This Fing moron has got to be Democrat, that is the only way he could be this stupid.

Missing an important point here.

You know how many people died in traffic accidents today?

We should ban rocks.  Looking for NON sequitors here.

If it were a sharp AND pointy gun I assume the reporter would have mentioned it.

Multiple Choice:

The “Americanization of schools in Ontario” is, in this instance:

1.  A non sequitor
2.  A compliment
3.  Damning with faint praise
4.  An insult, eh?
5.  All of the above.

Everyone, NOOOOOOO! That was not meant as a pun of any sort (as someone so graciously brought to my attention in a pm) It was a simple statement in response to something Proof mentioned to me earlier about Jenny Agutter. It’s all Proof’s fault. He seems to be the instigator in everything that gets me in trouble and no doubt will be the one that causes me to get banned.

The scary thing is that this is by no means the first time I’ve seen this non sequitur.  There are apparently a lot of people that believe that savage beatings and knife attacks can be averted if we only get rid of the guns, not seeing any difficulty with the logic.
