No Rahm Emanuel Wasn’t Hero Who Turned Blagojevich In To Federal Authorities

Kevin Aylward explains:

While Emanuel’s conduct is sure to be part of the ongoing investigation and potential trial, the notion that he is responsible for Blagojevich’s indictment is not supported by the facts contained in the criminal complaint (PDF). Federal investigators received permission to bug the Governor’s telephone lines BEFORE the presidential election took place.
Emanuel may well have declined to get involved in any of Blagojevich’s schemes, but to suggest that he is some how a hero for “turning in” Blagojevich doesn’t square with the facts presented so far.
The Feds already knew about Blagojevich’s attempts to sell Obama’s Senate seat because THEY WERE LISTENING TO HIM TRY TO SELL IT. What could Emanuel have told them that they didn’t already know?

I think the fallout from this for Obama’s camp is going to be that they turned down Blago’s offers of quid pro quo, but they failed to report him to authorities for offering it.
Which would make the Obama team complicit in a cover up.

This is the kind of in depth analysis that I have come to expect of you. The local Fox affiliate is reporting that Rahm Emmanuel was contacted by the Gov and contacted Fitzgerald.

Having just been to their web site…they are reporting nothing of the sort on it. Indeed this counterdicts what everyone IS saying:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081210/ap_on_go_pr_wh/illinois_governor_obama

Emanuel went in AFTER they found out about it. Not before. All the evidence seems pretty conclusive.

Just because the wiretaps happened before the election does not mean that Rahm Emanuel was not contacted by the Gov. Obama and Emanuel are obviously close and Emanuel had supported the Gov in the past. It is highly possible that the Gov contacted Emanuel to get the ear of Obama.

Maybe I’m not understanding the article, but why would the two be mutually exclusive. While Rahm isn’t the one that tipped investigators to Blogo’s indiscretions, he still may have been the one that spoke with his office and reported the incident to investigators.

I obviously know just as little as you do, but I don’t understand how you get from a to b with these facts. While you may eventually be right, there just isn’t enough for you to make that conclusion.

  • Jay

Obama and his crew are in no way involved because he SAYS they aren’t?

Nope, you’ve got that wrong. Indeed, at this point what we’re saying is that Obama and his crew are in no way involved because THE INVESTIGATORS WHO HAD ALL OF HIS PHONE CALLS TAPED AND WHO HAVE GOBS OF INFORMATION ON THIS VERY SUBJECT…Says they aren’t.

That’s a smidgin different, m’boy. And until we hear something different from the people with the information, a connection is, shall we say, a little tin-foil-hatish and desperate.

Who is drawing conclusions, fan boy?

Considering you’ve posted 9 times today regarding this Blogo thing, including calling it the “Blogojevich/Obama Scandal”, I would say YOU are, you pathetic child.

I think the fallout from this for Obama’s camp is going to be that they turned down Blago’s offers of quid pro quo, but they failed to report him to authorities for offering it.

Never mind the fact that, apparently, all of Blogo’s phone calls have been monitored for some time and any incriminating evidence would already be KNOWN to investigators and that this would have lead to some type of complaint against Obama and not a statement by investigators that there ARE no allegations against Obama and that they “could not put it more bluntly”….Obama and his transition staff are in big trouble.

Seriously, you just can’t help yourself can you. Did you even listen to the press conference?

A lot of thugs are going to be nailed over this.
There’s a lot of shysters from the Daley machine in a panic tonight.

Watching worms slither out the can is your way of having fun? Perverse IMO.

While it’s possible, what we know seems to say otherwize. The indictment, which Rob has posted, makes absolutely no mention of Obama’s team bringing this to light.

They found out during Blagojevich’s phone calls that he had spoken to Obama (we know this much for fact). While this doesn’t mean that they didn’t come forward later…it does mean that they were not the ones who tipped the authorities off, and that they sat on it for at least a little while.

Give them a break, Jay. They’re so freaked out by losing everything in the last two major elections and seeing their conservative revolution turned to dust, they don’t know whether to buy more guns or leave the country.

    I’m hoping for the latter.

  • ellinas

    It’s Robert108′s fault. Not Bush’s. Period. /sarcasm

You’re right, NoJelly. My bad. I guess all they said, when asked at least two time whether there were any complaints against Obama or his staff was:

We make no allegations that he’s aware of anything, and that’s as simply as I can put it.

    and

So I simply pointed out that if you look at the complaint, there’s no allegation that the president-elect — there’s no reference in the complaint to any conversations involving the president-elect or indicating that the president-elect was aware of it. And that’s all I can say.

It may very well turn out (it won’t) that Obama was somehow embroiled in this scheme. And if there is evidence that turns up that substantiates it, we’ll all be dismayed (well, all but Nojelly, he thinks it’ll be fun). But until then, it remains what it has been the entire time, unfounded. Right now, this type of connection amounts to pathetic desperation and nothing else.

“Bush lied” End of discussion, no proof necessary, mantra established.

“Bush’s evil oil buddies are ripping us off” End of discussion, no proof necessary, mantra makes truth.

“Cheney & Haliburton are profiteering from the Iraq war” End of discussion, no proof necessary, innuendo makes truth.

“Bush caused this economy” Gimme a ferchrissakes break…

So now we have an age-old established political machine where NO ONE gets in or advances without playing, his own campaign manager claimed there was communication (and hence the obvious implications), but Obama and his crew are in no way involved because he SAYS they aren’t?

The koolaid is spiked with koolaid this year…

It was called an election dumbass.

    hahahahaha.

So how much is a governor’s seat worth? (It ought to be worth more than the senate seat, since the governor gets to sell the senate seat.)

  • NoJelly

THE INVESTIGATORS WHO HAD ALL OF HIS PHONE CALLS TAPED AND WHO HAVE GOBS OF INFORMATION ON THIS VERY SUBJECT…Says they aren’t.

Wrong, “m’boy”. Check your quotes. I heard Fitsgerald say it a dozen times yesterday, and it wasn’t “They aren’t”.

The worms are only just beginning to slither out the can. This will be fun.

    Just curious…

If the Illinois Senate seat is this easily passed from one crook to another, then what were the circumstances when Obama received his initial appointment for that same office?
