No More Home Of The Fighting Sioux

A reader sent me this picture of the “Fighting Sioux” imagery and slogans being taken down off of the Ralph Englestad Arena in Grand Forks.

Some might say it’s the end of an era, but the NCAA agreed to let the REA keep most of the Fighting Sioux imagery up inside the arena. Which kind of makes a person wonder what this entire pointless exercise in political correctness was really all about.

Anyway, the on-going existence of logos in the arena and the lack of a nickname for UND’s teams (per a mandate from the legislature) going forward make me wonder if these teams will ever really stop being the Fighting Sioux.

I still think the legislature ought to make the moratorium on a new nickname permanent. Let UND, unofficially, be the “Fighting Sioux” forever.
