New Poll: Rudy/McCain Now Tied In New York

For what it’s worth:

Arizona Sen. John McCain is tied 30 – 30 percent with former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani among New York State likely Republican presidential primary voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney gets 9 percent, with 8 percent each for former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Sen. Hillary Clinton has 51 percent of likely Democratic primary voters, with 25 percent for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and 11 percent for former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.

Tied is better than being dominated in your home state where you are something of a political icon, but still. Rudy should own New York, not be battling for it with McCain.
Of course, a strong finish in Florida could do a lot to steal McCain’s thunder in other states.

“these elections” should be “this election”

Hate to say it, but McCain is probably our best shot if we want the GOP to win these elections. Guiliani and Huckabee probably couldn’t beat Clinton. That leaves Romney or McCain, and frankly, I think McCain has the best shot.

Losing one’s home state can have some pretty serious consequences. Just ask AlGore!

Whether we [all] like it or not, John MCain is doing far better than pundits had predicted and in spite of a daily beating on the airwaves from Rush and Glen. I believe McCain even holds a lead in – ghasp! – North Dakota. He may fade too… who cares? I’m voting for whoever the GOP candidate is, except Congressman Paul.

I almost think that there are too many in the race right now and as soon as they also rans drop out I think some of these numbers will even out.

Fred’s out. No endorsement. Put and extra 10 points in Romney’s column. This changes everything.

Giuliani’s strategy to wait for Florida isn’t panning out so great. I think people have started writing him off and are now turning to other candidates they think have a better shot at winning (ie McCain).
