New iPhone Commercial Out

So sweet I’m almost literally drooling…

Quick, someone help me think of a reason why I need this so I can use it on my wife.

Cool.

Save your spare change Rob. It’s only $600 w/o service.

I don’t grok the appeal of the dadgum thing.  It’s a phone.  A phone.  Need to make a call?  A $30 phone does it magnificently.  The iPhone is narcissitic mental masturba+ion.  I don’t need to tote around pictures to show to people, have the history of my to-do list, or any of the other “features” that this pricey abomination has.  It’s analogous to $3,000 spinner wheels, to me.

how can you “almost literally” be doing anything?

Here’s the big thing.  Apple iPhone has slick commercials.  Blackberry, the Palm Treo, etc., don’t.  Instead, they sell a lot of phones.  That IS the difference.

Whatever.  Looks neato.  Don’t need it by ANY stretch of the imagination.  I don’t use the phone I have, nor any of the features therein.

Looks like something to make the “Crackberry” seem benign, Rob.  (sorry)

Whatever dude. Apple predicts 1% of the market after 1 year. If they open the platform to outside software development, they’ll blow past that number in months. It’s not so much WHAT you carry around with you but how easy it is to use.  Never to have to scroll through my voice mail messages again will add years to my life (and life to my years!!!).

Oops, I mean you CAN scroll through messages instead of having to spend 30 minutes listening/deleting/listening etc...SWEET!

It’s exclusively to AT&T wireless for the first two years after its release. As far as I’ve been able to discern, that leaves us North Dakotans out of the coverage areas.

There’s a lot of neat things; having all voicemails listed for random access (i.e. you don’t have to listen to messages 1,2,3 before listening to the fourth one) is nice. It’s an iPod, a web browser, an email client, a digital camera. If you’re near a standard 802.11 access point, it’ll use that for the web and mail instead of burning airtime. The keynote on Apple’s site demoing all the features blew me away - image resizing with that “pinch” gesture?

This thing makes me wonder if they tacked on the phone as an afterthought.
