Nearly Half Of Americans Think Reporters Are In The Bag For Obama
And only 25% think that political reporters are going to offer an unbiased view of the election.
The belief that reporters are trying to help Barack Obama win the fall campaign has grown by five percentage points over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey found that 49% of voters believe most reporters will try to help Obama with their coverage, up from 44% a month ago.
Just 14% believe most reporters will try to help John McCain win, little changed from 13% a month ago. Just one voter in four (24%) believes that most reporters will try to offer unbiased coverage.
A pretty sad commentary on the state of journalism, no?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I think the solution to media bias is for journalists to drop their pretenses toward objectivity and admit their biases. Then when someone reads an article they’ll know what perspective that article is coming from. And with everyone being open and honest about their biases news outlets could then seek ideological balance.
Covering an abortion issue? Get someone who is pro-abortion and someone who is pro-life. Covering the war? Get a hawk and a dove.
The public would be much better served in that way. But given that liberalism already dominates the media and that being a conservative is, much like in the entertainment industry, pretty much a guarantee that you’re not going to get very far this isn’t likely to happen.
The media is biased for liberals. We know the journalists are biased. They know they’re biased, and they seem quite content with that situation.
