NDSU President Now Being Escorted By Personal Bodyguard

This is rather unprecedented in the world of North Dakota politics. I’m not even sure how often the governor uses a bodyguard, if ever.

There is something to be said for earning a decent living, but NDSU President Joe Chapman is living in territory far beyond that, on the backs of taxpayers and college students. He has a million-dollar home, a six-figure salary, and now, his own bodyguard.
It’s simply unprecedented for public figures in this state to take such extreme precautions. The excuse for this latest excess was an upset student barging into his home. Embarassing yes, but is he really in danger?
Chapman is either paranoid or not revealing to the public why he is spending yet more of our money.

I’ll say the public deserves an explanation.

    Chapman will not give us a full explanation, after the Forum published the article about the NDSU debt he demanded that no one talk to the media w/o university relations being present. What are they trying to hide?

    Why did the Budget Director get a $20,000 a year raise?

    Why does NDSU have a plane to fly their VP’s and the President to Bismarck charging the departments for the cost all the while giving the VP’s a $9,000 yrly car allowance and the President a $12,000 yrly car allowance.

    Why won’t Champan reveal his plans on remodeling Old Main to the tune of up to $5 million now, why does he want to keep it hush hush until after the legislative session?

    Why rent space offsite at the newly built buildings of an NDSU supporter while space is still available on campus? Is this payback for their contributions?

    If NDSU has nothing to hide, why won’t they let the bodyguard speak? Has he or has he not taken Mrs Chapman to the airport (or picked her up?) What are they hiding?

    I heard Chapman speak at an alumni event on the east coast once. I walked away thinking he was an embarrassment to the University, having a bodyguard, confirms it.

    I’m guessing that he is expecting a ‘backlash’ from the public seeing the Higher Education budget numbers…

    I have had lunch with Dr Chapman more than once. Just 3 or 4 of us.

    He came to IL to raise $$.

    I’m not shocked by this.

    Greetings:

    Even before 9/11/01, the “you’re nobody ’til somebody guards you” mentality had taken hold of our political and celebrity elites. Since then the situation has grown exponentially. I think you would be surprised to see how many of our Washington D.C. politicians have taxpayer supplied security. It isn’t just the President.
