NDGOP Convention Update: Thune Addresses The Audience

Senator John Thune, who famously knocked off Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle in a hard-fought South Dakota election, is addressing the NDGOP convention this morning. And that seems fitting to me given the feeling here at the convention.
Thune knocked off a Democrat heavyweight. This year the NDGOP (with a hefty assist from the tea party movement, in my humble estimation) knocked off a heavyweight in Byron Dorgan before they even nominated a candidate.
And I think Republicans are likely going to knock off another entrenched incumbent in Rep. Earl Pomeroy who is running for his 10th term in Congress. There has been a good deal of wrangling amongst the House candidates, but the feeling here at the convention is one of a high level of energy.
I think ND Republicans are ready to nominate one of these candidates, and ready to push that candidate over the top against Pomeroy. It’ll be a hard-fought race for sure. Pomeroy hasn’t survived for nine previous terms by being a lightweight, and his campaign coffers are flush with out-of-state political money that goes a long, long way here in North Dakota.
But I don’t think there’s ever been a time when Earl Pomeroy has been more beatable than right now.
