NDGOP Convention Update: Rick Berg Casts Himself As The Candidate Who Can Win

Rep. Rick Berg is getting a lot of mileage out of a Rasmussen poll done weeks ago which showed Berg beating Rep. Earl Pomeroy by 6 points while Kevin Cramer was statistically tied with with the incumbent. All three of Berg’s endorses at the convention – former state insurance commissioner Jim Poolman, former Fargo mayor Bruce Furness and Rep. Stacy Dahl – mentioned some variation on the theme, “Berg is the candidate who can win.”
To a Republican party that’s desperate to take back two of the federal delegation seat the Democrats have held now for decades, that message may be like water to thirsty plants
In Berg’s speech, he focused on the free market and tying Rep. Pomeroy to Barack Obama. He noted that Pomeroy and Obama were in this very building – the Alerus Center in Grand Forks – for the Democrat state convention and that now, more than a year into Obama’s term in office, the people are standing up against Obama.
Suggesting it was time for the people to stand up to Earl Pomeroy as well.
Berg also had the best line of the convention so far: “Thanks to Republican leadership in North Dakota, Earl Pomeroy will be able to find a job when he comes home.”
Berg isn’t as dynamic a speaker as Cramer, or even JD Donaghe, but he’s definitely got a lot of support at the convention.

How much did they lose on the Obama event. They’ve been stonewalling that.

As a delegate on the floor observing…well, the end for Cramer for his video. It was poorly produced and the “Scott Hennen” endorsement HAD to be the worst. His “Max Headroom” hyper enthusiastic shtick, with erratic head movements MADE PEOPLE AROUND ME UNCOMFORTABLE and it was at that point I considered not supporting him (even though I like him) . It also didn’t help Cramer having Nancy Schafer dron on on on on on on on on on on on on on on and on so much about how “awesome” Kevin is. She sounded like she was enjoying hearing herself talk more than she like Kevin. THEN (of course) there were “the kids” Boom 3 strikes and your out.

Did Berg really promise that if he gets elected he won’t support the Pelosi/Obama stimulus packages/job bills unless they label each and every one of them as “one time spending?”

Whether the candidate is Berg or Cramer, I will support them all the way. However, I think the danger in Berg’s candidacy is that we’ll lose voters who don’t think he’s conservative enough – especially if a strong, appealing indepedent pops up between now and the election. IMO, a strong independent is Pomeroy’s only chance of a win. I’m really rooting for Cramer.

I think it might take more than that.

Berg has not morals, ethics or principles if you steal from your own family and will not get my vote if he is the candidate.

“Berg isn’t as dynamic a speaker as Cramer”

You and I must have seen different speeches. Cramer came off as a little angry in his first speech (not the concession; the nomination speech), and he was speaking WAAAAAY too fast. Strangely enough, his video was very personal and very soft (and I mean that in a good way), but the speech was a complete contrast. Berg’s presentation was almost the opposite – the video was pretty dark (especially the ominous voiceover), but then the speech was pure optimism.

Tw, the NDGOP rented the Alerus Center right? Will they turn a profit on this?

You know I was being facetious right? I was trying to think up a way to get you back on their Christmas card list.

“You and I must have seen different speeches.”

thats kinda how it works with rob and hennen on this guy…… they have too much invested in his winning to be honest. sad.
