NDGOP Convention Update: House Candidate DuWayne Hendrickson Was Nervous Talking To The Crowd

Some people involved in the party nomination process don’t like there being so many candidates in the race. But I enjoy the lesser-known candidates like JD Donaghe and DuWayne Hendrickson, who interviewed as he came off the stage.

Hendrickson said that this was only his third time speaking publicly and that he was very nervous. He says that he doesn’t think he’ll get the nomination, but like Donaghe he will push to get signatures for a primary. Unlike Donaghe, Hendrickson doesn’t claim to have the signatures ready already.

It is understandable. He’s a real North Dakotan. Lot’s of us would be nervous talking to 1300 delegates, especially considering many of them were paid for by the competition.

Well I was one of those 1300 delgates and I never got paid.

That poor kid who nominated DuWayne looked scared to death. He only mentioned DuWayne’s name once (and barely at a whisper), and then didn’t even know what to do when (in terms of moving a formal nomination) when he got to the end.

DuWayne was right in front of me in line at Registration. Amazingly enough, he didn’t pre-register for the Convention – they had no credentials for him, and had to make one on the spot. How do you run for Congress and not bother to pre-register with the party?

i was the one who mand his nomnation and i meandt everything i said so their.

DuWayne (or somebody representing him) was at the convention in Fargo two years ago. A bunch of pages got in trouble for handing out flyers criticizing Hovey (remember that DuWayne was planning to run for Governor as an Independent). He was smart enough (or somebody helping him was smart enough) to do an end run around the Chief Page and hand the stuff directly to these 15 and 16-year kids. I don’t buy that he didn’t know the rules or the procedure this time around. He’s just disorganized (and the crappy speech that he gave and the handing over of his nomination speech to a scared kid who had no idea what to do are just signs of that). DuWayne likes the idea of running for office, but he doesn’t respect the process enough to do it properly.

And yes, he started at least every other sentence with “Say.” (not ending it with “eh” like the Canadians – he started his sentences with it).

im guessing he was to the only ‘new guy’ that didnt know the rules.

i think its great a person can just step up and do this. yes, they might look a bit out of place, but its good they can be heard. he really, really needs to take a speech class. at the very least practice what hes going to say. my insider up there told me he used the word ‘awesome’ more than a teenage girl and said ‘say’ like the canadians say ‘eh’ (that made no sense to me, but whatever……). while kinda silly, i am not sure if thats all that bad. i like to know political people are actually human now and then.

ConservativeEgg Head. I know there was know one at any convention passing out any info from 2 years ago for a race at Governor. I am the only one to represent myself. Would not let anyone else do it. Look what happened in the case of the email list, I could not let things like that happen. And the GOP party made mistakes and so did I, but you live and learn in this process. But I was impressed at all the accomadations that they did make for us non political outsiders. It wont take long to get my 300 signatures as I had 900 of my 1100 in no time. My running mate in the Governors race had the other 200. We only needed 1000. ANd sorry about being a real person, but I think thats what most of us want to represent us. Someone who lives in the real world. And thanks for the criticism, I only get better then, because I listen to what everyone says. See if the people in DC do that. I know I will…
