NDGOP Convention Officials Not Acknowledging Primary Challenges
Rep. Rick Berg just accepted the nomination for the US Senate at the NDGOP convention. He was introduced by several speakers, delivered his pre-nomination speech, marched around for the de rigueur floor demonstration, then went back to the podium to accept his nomination.
The person who wasn’t mentioned was Republican Duane Sand, who announced his intention to challenge Berg on the state primary ballot in June.
Given that precedent, I would expect that the convention also won’t acknowledge that Kevin Cramer (who will actually be addressing the convention sometime today as a statewide elected official serving on the Public Service Commission) will be running to the primary ballot as well.
This is a mistake on the part of the party leadership, I think. I get that they have butt-hurt over the skipping of the convention, but everyone in this room knows about these challenges. The party would do well to embrace the competition, rather than stifle it.Tags: duane sand, Kevin Cramer, NDGOP, North Dakota News, Rick Berg
