NBC Ready To Call The Election For Obama

Clinching? Really? Clinching means locking in. When a baseball team “clinches” the pennant, or “clinches” a post-season spot it means they’ve won it. That mathematically no other team can take it away from them.
NBC is saying that Obama has clinched this election because he’s polling slightly better than McCain in four battleground states. But the election is still a month away, and those four states are states that voted for President Bush in 2004, so to say that Obama has “clinched” these states is completely absurd.
But that’s the sort of thing that’s to be expected from a media that’s more in-the-bag for Obama than any other candidate in recent memory.
In a lot of these reporters’ minds, the coming election day is just a formality. Obama is already President, because they don’t know anyone in their little professional and personal cliques in New York or Washington or LA who is supporting McCain. Liking a Republican, or worse liking a backwoods rube like Sarah Palin, is just something the bitter clingers in fly-over states do. And there can’t possibly be enough of them to swing an election, can there? Tags: Uncategorized
