NARAL Coming Out With New Ad

NARAL is coming out with a new ad targeting John Roberts.

Details of a television ad released Friday by the liberal interest group NARAL Pro-Choice America against President Bush's Supreme Court nominee, John G. Roberts:

TITLE: "Rights."

LENGTH: 30 seconds.

AIRING: Nationally on cable channel CNN. Local cable programming in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

SCRIPT: Announcer: "Privacy. Equality. The right to choose. Fundamental freedoms Americans have cherished for generations. But John Roberts dismisses one of our established liberties as the so-called right to privacy and co-wrote a brief arguing that Roe v Wade should be overruled. Roberts' legal record raises questions on whether he accepts the right to privacy. There's just too much at stake to let John Roberts become a decisive vote on the Supreme Court."

KEY IMAGES: Pictures of smiling families with an American flag in the background; quotes from Roberts' memo, court briefs and a USA Today editorial quote with the Supreme Court building in the background; John Roberts speaking at a lectern.

Odd they should choose families as a background given that NARAL is a pro-abortion group and pretty much in the businesses of making sure that the children who make a family don't get a chance to be born.

Anyway, at least they're not accusing Roberts of supporting abortion clinic bombings this time around.

I just saw the ad on Fox. I thought it was very tasteful and factual. They point out that Roberts will probably vote against Roe v. Wade and that he hasn’t said much in favor of a right to privacy.

You’re right though, Rob. The conservative guest used the segment as an opportunity to rightfully criticize NARAL for the lunacy of their previous ad.

I think Roberts will vote against Roe because he knows that it isn’t a right to privacy issue.  This has never been about the government trying to pry into the medical records of women, this has been about whether or not a specific medical procedure is legal.

Roberts will vote against Roe (I hope) not out of his opinions on the procedure (though I’m sure he has strong ones) but because he recognizes that the Constitution does not address abortion, thus it is a matter reserved to the states by the 10th amendment.

Saw the ad, and it is pure hilarity. Roe isn’t about access to medical records, as you stated Rob, that issue is for HIPAA. I just hope that if abortion is made illegal, people won’t turn to doing “at home surgeries” again.

Uh, Natasha, abortions being legal nationwide and Planned Parenthood offices in every city have not kept girls from doing stupid and dangerous things.  There are many stories of teens who have their baby secretly and then dump them in the garbage.  Or how about a recent case here in Texas where a girl didn’t want her pregnancy with twins to ruin her college future and begged her boyfriend to step on her abdomen until she had a miscarriage.  Because of the goofy laws that have to be in place to protect a woman’s right to choose, the boyfriend is now in jail but the girl has no consequences what so ever.  Yep, it’s a good thing that abortions are legal, because then only a rusty coat hanger would have been available to her.

Oh, I agree with you 100% Rob. I’m one of the very few pro-choice advocates who believes (and wants) Roe v. Wade to be overturned.

Yes, but what does this have to do with abortion being legal or not?
