Nancy Pelosi: Natural Disasters Are Good For The Economy Except When They’re Bad

Written By:

According to Nancy Pelosi (video here), the ugly jobs numbers released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics were the result of natural disasters around the country including tornadoes and flooding.

“The unemployment numbers are obviously disturbing,” said Pelosi on Face the Nation. “Are they an anomaly as some people suggest because of the disasters in the south and the mid-west and the rest or is this something systemic that we have to accommodate in a different way?”

What’s ironic is that, when Haiti was devastated by earthquakes Pelosi was quick to deploy the broken window fallacy, suggesting that the natural disaster would be good for the country as rescue and recovery efforts put people to work.

So, uh, which is it? Are natural disasters good for the economy or bad?

I guess, for Pelosi, natural disasters are good…except when they’re bad.
