NAACP: We’re Ok With Harry Reid Calling Obama A Light-Skinned Negro

Isn’t it amazing how someone’s party affiliation can dictate whether or not their racial comments are offensive?

Something tells me that if it were Mitch McConnell who was complaining about Obama being too light-skinned, and not talking enough like a “Negro,” the NAACP might have a different opinion.

” But does anyone doubt that Reid’s remark did address lingering, “unfortunate truths” (or possible truths) about race in America? Does anyone doubt that skin color counts (or may count) when it comes to electing a black president? That Obama’s thoroughly “standard” speech patterns may make him more electable, as opposed to some other black candidate whose speech may seem more “accented?” (Or less “standard” in some other way?)” -The Daily Holwer

Can someone please state why they are outraged over Reid’s comments?

It obvious that if you are a liberal tool that is helping to advance the liberal socialist agenda you can be as racist as you want and all the other liberal racists will support you. 100% of democrats are racists. Race and class warfare are means to an end to the libstain.

  • j.l.

I`m still of the belief that either of them should be able to say anything they want, without the do-gooders telling us what is ok or not. Let them air their views, and the people who want to shun either one of them will do it on their own. Political correctness is nothing about being correct and everthing about politics.

  • sayanything-1254

Hannitized… so, you can’t produce a SINGLE statement by Trent Lott advocating the idea of segregation, can you. You are a total phony.

    How about this quote…
“A few years ago, he [Obama] would have been serving us coffee.” Former President Wm. J. Clinton

  • AKA WOOF

Trent Lott said we would be better off had the country
elected the segregationist Dixiecrat Thurmond president.

“I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years, either,” Lott said .

  • jimmypop

also, that dude in the cover pic looks like a black ed schafer…..

  • lock’em’up

Poor poor Republicans. Life just isn’t fair for Republicans. All of y’all could be martyrs if ya try hard enough.

  • sayanything-15427

Can’t wait for someone to do the 100th birthday toast for Byrd. How many of the Democrats would love for him to have been President?

  • jimmypop

holy sh!t….. this is one of the stupidest things i have ever heard. im just cant wait for a white conservative to tell barry about his negro speech pattern…. and have the racist naacp group to have no problem with it.

  • sayanything-287

Mickey, may I correct your spelling please, I don’t thing it is spelled tard, isn’t the correct spelling TURD?

  • sayanything-1254

Hannitized… please produce a single quote by Trent Lott advocating the idea of segregation.

  • sayanything-287

There was no way this would ever result in Reid losing his power. He could have called Obama a NI*#er, a coon, a jungle bunny, whatever low racist comment he wanted and with health care on the line and him being a liberal leader, it was never going anywhere. The only way to bring down a liberal is by the voters throwing them out.

Just look at their incredible numbers of abuses of power and outright lies, the Democrat party is all about power and privilege, as they have absolutely no moral, ethical or spiritual values at all, none, nada, zero. They have as a group no core values beyond raw power and extra privileges for them as a ruling elite. Think about the old Soviet Union and their dachas and that will tell you what the Democrat Party is all about!

  • sayanything-342

So, according to handjob, when I refer to obama as a single person, it is acceptable to call him a light skinned negro.

Don’t you just laugh when handjob tries so hard to sound intelligent.

    He’s adorable for a tard.

  • sayanything-287

If a Republican had used the same word it would be unforgivable by blacks!

I don’t have to wrestle, your side, looking to get Lott read words into that statement that did not exist in reality. But, what you are saying is that when Reid clearly says Negro and makes allusions to his black speech patterns, hell no problem no matter how clear it was; but, when Lott said something that was by your own admission ambiguous, with no clear racist words – that justified him leaving his office. Is that what you are saying, a liberal can use actual racist language but a Republican better not say anything your side can force racist feelings into?

I have to state the obvious because you liberals have selective memories!

  • sayanything-203

Is this the same NAACP whose president, Kweisi Mfume, said this about Senator Trent Lott’s far less reprehensible remarks:

the kind of callous, calculated, hateful bigotry that has no place in the halls of Congress

  • sayanything-5371

Russ, I heard today that the democrats had Byrd done at a taxidermist so he could be present to vote with all the other dead democrats.

  • sayanything-287

    Very immature of you!

Trent Lott did NOT advocate a return to segregation, he is no racist and was not then, he was trying to offer a toast to an old GOP lion that once ran for President, one that had left his racist past, and Lott was over exuberant and not having an Obama Telepromter to tell him what to say, he did not realize the full import of saying if old Strom Thurman had been elected things would be a lot different. Your side that is wholly racist and hated Thurman for his racist past, while forgiving KKK Bird of his worse racial past, made Lott’s words into something they never were intended to mean and Lott, as is typical of Republicans, had a sense of right and wrong and of obligation to serve, knew that he needed to apologize and with mounting pressure that was hurting his party to resign his leadership position.

I do not think Reid should leave for using the word negro, nor apologize. From my birth until the Civil Rights era Negro was the label for people of color, it was no curse. “The word Negro was used to refer to a person of Black ancestry prior to the shift in the lexicon of American and worldwide classification of race and ethnicity in the late 1960s. The appellation was accepted as a normal and was used by those of Black African descent as well as those of non-African black descent during the eras prior to the Civil Rights movement.” Then people of color decided that word was no good, preferring black and then African-American saying negro was a racial slur. Even with black people in my family and the closest person on earth to me is my Black Grandson, I still on very rare occasion have used that word without offending anyone.

  • De_Hannitized

I do think Lott’s comments were far worse. However, I also believe that there is a clear double standard between what the Democrats can get away with and what the Republicans can. That said, Reid’s comments were really not that outrageous. But if they were spoken by a Republican, he would have been forced to commit political suicide.

Personally, I hope it blows over because as long as Dingy Harry remains the leader of his party, the Dems will lose. Big.

  • hannitized

    PP,

The quote that Trent Lott spoke was ambiguous, at best, racially divisive at it’s worst. I don’t believe all people who support segregation are racist, just most of them.

You are about as intellectual as a pumpkin pie. I really have no interest in playing your stupid game. I frankly don’t have the patience for that level of stupidity.

You would be better off to simply state that it was ambiguous and might not have meant what he said, like Nieman did.

Nieman did a much, much better job of making an argument than you did. It’s just that no level of discourse is going to change Niemans mind, nor will it sink it that it doesn’t matter what Nieman thinks Trott said, it matters how blacks were legitimately offended by the statement.

  • hannitized

It was a good thing for the Military to remove your ability to think as an individual, at least while you were serving. But, you were supposed to return to be independent minded, instead of becoming the useful idiot of the far-right fringe.

Seriously, you are about as deep as a petrie dish.

  • sayanything-3444

Well he may be a racist, but he’s our racist dammit!

There is no trespass so grave that the liberals cannot overlook it if it is one of their own that commits it. Fact of life – nothing new under the sun.

  • hannitized

Not that there is a single intelligent Republican on this blog to understand this, but for the record:

There is a different between Trent Lot advocating the idea of segregation that represented a racist mindset of a political system that was rejected overwhelmingly by the American people during the civil rights movement. That mindset impacted every single black American.

The remark made by Harry was about a single man, and it was not meant to be harmful, like the ideas that Lott advocated.

  • sayanything-4253

Nah. Just file this away and remember it the next time we are called “Racist” for not supporting Barack Obama’s policies.

Because disagreeing with a policy is much more racist. Especially if you aren’t a Dem.

    Que the next Troll-by in 5, 4 3, 2, …

  • hannitized

It’s old terminology, and it’s certainly out dated, but it’s the context in how Harry used the words that prevents the statement from being offensive.

I know you think you are funny, but really you just look like an idiot. Trust me. Nobody is laughing with you.

  • hannitized

    Now go effe yourselves babies..

  • hannitized

    Neiman,

It doesn’t matter what you think, it matters what the blacks thought it meant.

There is no ambiguity over Reid’s statement. There is certainly plenty of ambiguity regarding Lott’s.

You can wrestle with yourself if you like. Stating the obvious over and over again is for lesser men.

  • sayanything-316

please produce a single quote by Trent Lott advocating the idea of segregation.

    My stuff is stuff.

    Your stuff is sh!t.

Hey! Get your sh!t away from my stuff!

    – Trent Lott ( ……I think)
