Murtha Says He Wouldn’t Join The Military Now
So, does this mean that Murtha surrenders his "moral authority" to speak on military issues?
Serioulsy though, how stupid of Murtha to confuse service in the military with Bush's policies in Iraq.
Asked for comment, a Defense Department spokesman, Lt. Col. John Skinner, said: “We have an all-volunteer military. People are free to choose whether they serve or not.”
“Our freedom of speech in this country allows all of us the opportunity to voice an opinion. It’s one of our great strengths as a nation,” he added in an e-mailed reply.
Yeah, that whole freedom of speech thing is great. Of course, politicians who use their military service as a platform from which to lecture the rest of us about military issues are sort of hypocritical when they say that they’d no longer serve in the military.
And what a disservice Murtha is doing to our armed forces. Whatever your opinions of Bush and his foreign policies, the military is still an honorable profession and doesn’t deserve Murtha’s scorn.

The armed forces are not the object of Murtha’s scorn.
The armed forces are not the object of Murtha’s scorn.
Oh really? Then exactly what is?

A decorated Vietnam combat veteran who retired as a colonel after 37 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Murtha told ABC News’ “Nightline” program that Iraq “absolutely” was a wrong war for President George W. Bush to have launched.
[...] Rep. John “Cut And Run” Murtha recently did a grave disservice to our military by telling America that he, a decorated war veteran, would not sign up to serve in today’s armed forces. [...]
hmmmm ... funny thing is, the Military probably doesn’t want Murtha to join now anyway. (he’s a little long in the tooth you know)
If he disagrees with Bush’s foreign policies why doesn’t he just say that instead of trying to discourage people from joining the military?
Is this sort of like when Murtha called for an immediate withdrawal and then you went on and on about how that wasn’t really what he was calling for?

MI quoting ABC Nightline quoting Murtha:
Iraq “absolutely” was a wrong war for President George W. Bush to have launched.
Then again, given Murtha’s antiwar stance on almost every military action since Vietnam, this wouldn’t exactly be a surprise to hear him criticize this war as well, now would it?
NEWSFLASH: Antiwar Democratic Congressman posing as war hawk criticizes war.

Then why did Rob bother posting about it?
What’s that they say about imitation?
You seem off your game tonight, C-man. Can’t say I blame you though, with the Rose bowl combined score in the 70s.
[...] Exactly what I was getting at earlier. [...]

I think it’s called “comic relief”.Then why did Rob bother posting about it?
What’s that they say about imitation?
Something about the serenest form of flabbery. To be fair, in any case, I cracked wise at you first.
Murtha made a blatantly anti-military statement
He made an anti-Bush administration statement that has placed in the military in peril.
He said he wouldn’t join the military, MI. Not that he doesn’t support the Bush administration.
This is just like where you tried to claim that Murtha wasn’t really calling for an immediate withdrawal. Maybe you should quit trying to revise what this man is saying.
