MSNBC Hiring Environmental Reporter, No Experience On Environmental Issues Necessary

You just have to be “hip” enough.

CBS is expanding its coverage of the environment. We seek a talented reporter/host for Internet video broadcast. We are looking for smart, creative, hard working up and comers, who can bring great energy, creativity and a dash of humor to our coverage. A deep interest in the environment and sustainability issues will serve you well.
You are wicked smart, funny, irreverent and hip, oozing enthusiasm and creative energy. This position requires strong people, reporting, story telling and writing skills. Managing tight deadlines should be second nature. Knowledge of the enviro beat is a big plus, but not a requirement.
Responsibilities include reporting and hosting two to three news packages per week plus daily writing for our blog. You should be comfortable using a video camera and the Internet. Be prepared to see America. Heavy domestic travel.

I don’t blame them. Why pay for someone with experience when all you need is someone to look pretty while they read Al Gore’s press releases?

Eh common. It’s the newswriters that need experience. Hosts read teleprompters. I wouldn’t be bothered if the only listing requirements were “must look good and enunciate clearly.”

Proof that the news is not really the news. It’s just entertainment. Their sole purpose is to sell ad spots and make money for their owners.

Those who are intelligent but, not cute, handsome, and witty need not apply but we will pay you a little more than average if you make a lot of money for me. Your main skills should be in the areas of creating controversy and hysteria.

Hark! ewes just said something that I completely agree with.

    I’m…..befuddled.

Sorry, I kind of see this as a non-issue too (although it makes for a good chuckle). It specifically says “Knowledge of the enviro beat” which is not at all the same as saying “knowledge of environmental science.”

I’m more bothered by this: “A deep interest in the environment and sustainability issues will serve you well.” That reads “environmental activist” to me.

  • Bill Mitchell

    Rob,

Do you mean to tell me that MSNBC would actually hire a reporter without experience? Well, if MSNBC won’t hire them, they can always run for President.

  • Bat One

Lestat is correct… although comparing CBS and MSNBC is a difference with no discernible distinction.

As for those “models” on Fox, as I recall the least well-educated of those women holds a masters degree.

  • Mickey

…and the bubble headed bleach blond say’s “is the head dead yet?”…

  • Lestat

This article is about CBS, not MSNBC. Can you read?

Are you going to convince me that Fox is any different? All the models they put on to read the news are really geniuses?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Ack, I put the wrong network in the title.

My mistake, but it doesn’t really change the meaning of my post.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

I’m not sure that Lestat entirely has a point. Just because a Fox News anchor is attractive doesn’t mean she’s stupid.

  • Frankie

You say MSNBC is hiring an Environmental reporter, and then you link to CBS?
    What gives?
By the way MSNBC had a very fine column with a highly experienced reporter in this field.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/11/opinion/11sun2….

"On Wednesday, a panel in Britain concluded that scientists whose e-mail had been hacked late last year had not, as critics alleged, distorted scientific evidence to prove that global warming was occurring and that human beings were primarily responsible."

I'm shocked–SHOCKED!!!–that SayAnything didn't have more posts on this story. You'd think conservatives would be upset that their precious "Climate-Gate" was a myth!
