Most Decorated Marine Pilot Dies at 89

This guy had some big brass ones!

Retired Marine Corps Col. Kenneth L. Reusser, called the most decorated Marine aviator in history and was shot down in three wars, has died at age 89.
Reusser flew 253 combat missions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and was shot down in all three, five times in all.
His 59 medals included two Navy Crosses, four Purple Hearts and two Legions of Merit.
In 1945, while based in Okinawa, he stripped down his F4U-4 Corsair fighter and intercepted a Japanese observation plane at a high altitude. When his guns froze, he flew his fighter into the observation plane, hacking off its tail with his propeller.
In 1950 in Korea led an attack on a North Korean tank-repair facility at Inchon, then destroyed an oil tanker almost blowing himself out of the sky.
In Vietnam he flew helicopters and was leading a rescue mission when his Huey was shot down. He needed skin grafts over 35 percent of his badly burned body.

RIP Col. Reusser. We humbly salute you!

    Leeden is a douchebag. Bummer.

Which has what to do with anything?

Thread jacking by Leftard troll in progress:
Please refer to: Trolls, Thread jacks, Dezinformatsia and 2010 …some participants are doing are not engaging in discussion. That’s not their point. They are here to divert, distract, discredit and disrupt.

Back on task, pilots during the early stages of both WWII and Korea were particularly brave. Their aircraft were generally inferior to what the enemy had out there and were often outnumbered.

In WWII we started off with aircraft like the F4F Wildcat and the supreme POS F2A Buffalo (the Army Air, P-40′s) and only by using superior tactics and a generous heaping of sheer ca-hone-ays did they survive and prevail in combat against the faster, more nimble Japanese Zeros.

In Korea Marines had aircraft like the F9F Panther. Good looking aircraft to be sure, but no match for the more nimble MiG-15. Luckily, F-86′s were brought in, but even they had some serious disadvantages against the MiG.

These were brave men and capable men. We owe a whole lot to them.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds – and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there

I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,

I’ve topped the windswept heights with easy grace

Where never lark, or even eagle flew -

And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod

The high untresspassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

    Killed 11 December 1941

It’s upsetting that this Hero’s efforts are lost today on a generation of increasingly socialist, entitleist ingrates.

    Thank you for Everything, Colonel.

John Kerry could be heard scoffing. “Four? What a pansy! I have six! I got this one for stubbing my toe. This one for a splinter. This one came from a burn I got while cooking beans, this one was a REEEEAAALLLLY nasty paper cut. This one…”

That is a man cut from some hard assed wood, right there. With the bark left on.

  • 2Hotel9

Oh, and spark is pissed off because more of his heroes got the shit stomped out of them during the weekend. Go put Barri’s penis back in your mouth, spark, it’ll all be ok when he “rewards” you.

Notice how the leftists never admire guys like this.

    Ken,

Of course. If is “guys like this” whose actions and lives make a mockery of the moral ambivalence of those on the Left.

Col. Reusser indeed had the Right Stuff. God blessed him with courage and long life. May he be equally blessed in the afterlife.

  • FedUp

A dying generation of true patriots who put their country before their own lives! We still see that in our military – God Bless Them ALL – but we don’t see ANY OF THAT in our government. Wonder why!

    Rest in peace, Col. Reusser!

When I get to heaven to St Peter I will tell, Another Marine Reporting Sir, I’ve Served My Time In Hell.

Thank you Col. Reusser. Rest in peace my brother.

At the beginning of the war the only thing American pilots had going for them was their planes were tougher than the Zero (could take more battle damage) and they had self sealing gas tanks (they didn’t burst into flames when shot. They developed tactics that allowed them to combat the Zero and took the fight to the enemy. It wasn’t until the Hellcat, the Corsair and Army planes like the P-51 and the P-47 started showing up that they had a “better” aircraft. Hats off to those Aviators and Pilots that fought the war at the beginning. It takes nerve to fight a superior aircraft.

To Col. Reusser, Semper Fi, Marine! You earned your place in Fiddlers Green!
