More Voter Fraud Hypocrisy

Every time Democrats lose an election they make a lot of murky comments and borderline allegations about voter fraud. Yet every time somebody tries to actually do something about voter fraud they're quick to screech "disenfranchisement" and toss a monkey wrench into the works.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Jim Doyle vetoed a bill Friday that would have required voters to show government-issued picture identification at the polls, saying it would disenfranchise elderly voters.

Republicans had argued that the bill would help eliminate the potential for fraud during elections, in which registered Wisconsin voters - like those in many states - need only give their name and address to cast ballots.

But Doyle, a Democrat, said the bill would have made voting more difficult for about 100,000 senior citizens who don't have driver's licenses.

Baloney.

If I were elderly, and living in Wisconsin, I would certainly be offended by Doyle's implication that I am incapable of securing proper identification for myself.

Update:

The ederly who have been voting since Franklin Delano Roosevelt, need to secure those tennis balls to the bottom of their walkers and strap those oxygen tanks to their chairs, find transportation and go spend a day at that most entertaining gov’t agency,
The Department of Motor Vehicles.

Put off some medication too Grandma, the DMV wants some bucks to take your picture.

Oh well, it would just make it too darn difficult for those Dem activists mining absentee ballots in nursing homes if they had to spend all the extra effort to get the grannies on a bus and take them to the DMV.

Well here’s a solution. You’re already planning to commit massive vote fraud, so why not just manufacture “fake but accurate” ID’s for everyone?

It’s all about finding creative solutions to solve problems and help people isn’t it comrades?

Well that’s certainly a sob story.  It’s not a very convincing argument against having an ID at the voting booth however.  If the elderly can make it to the voting booth, I would certainly think they can go get an ID.

The elderly have ID , they’ve been voting with it for years. They probably have to show ID and proof of residency to register. They probably have sign to vote also.

If there is a fee for the Gov’t ID , it amounts to a poll tax.

Some circle of hell looks just like the DMV.

Proof of residency?  Maybe. I’ve registered in three different states and I’ve never had to show or even been asked. Oh, I’ve asked them if they were going to verify and I would get an answer somewhere along the lines of, “don’t worry about it”. I would walk away shaking my head at how stupid easy it is to scam the system. The law was there stating that we were supposed to prove residence with something as simple as a bill from the mail, but people didn’t want to “disenfranchise” voters.  In one state it was as easy as signing your name to a slip and mailing it in. About three weeks later you got your voter card mailed to you in. None of it was verified. (and before any petulant troll says, “red state!”, it was a solid “blue state” that went to Al Gore) I signed up my all of my girlfriends in an effort to get them to vote.  It was as easy as me putting a small slip of paper in front of them and saying, “here, sign this” and then mailing it off.

Show ID to register?  Only in some states.

I would agree with this WOOF if we didn’t already pay for it with taxes anyway.

I can’t argue with that.  Right next to the Circle of DMV (or Secretary of State) Hell is the Circle of Social Security Office Hell.  They’re about as much fun with as fast a line as the DMVs out there.

I just don’t see what the big deal is about making people show ID at the polls.  I have to suspect that some, if not most, people who oppose the measure simply want to keep the elections process as scam prone as it is currently.

This legislation, as with others of its kind across the nation, provides a free photo id to those who cannot afford it.  To get this free ID all they have to do is sign an affidavit stating that they cannot afford it.

any measure to increase the amount of labor one has to do to vote...be it even in the form of aquiring paperwork...is bad. Voting should be kept simple, period. What the bill does is oust an even larger number than the 100,000 senior citizens they mention, those being people who for whatever reason have lost their ID or have had their ID suspended etc. etc....lower incomes who won’t reacquire ID in the timeframe of voting (which always costs some money, not to mention the time hassle) won’t vote. Keep voting simple.

Keep voting simple

You also must keep voting integrity, for a simple inaccurate vote does nobody any good…

Your statement should be amended to say “Keep voting as simple as possible while ensuring the integrity of the vote”

Of course Carl B is right… we need to make it simple AND easy. I suggest handing out ballots in supermarkets on the honor system that you agree to vote only once… This would only be done in predominately Democrat precincts since we all know Republicans don’t seem to have any problem voting correctly AND legally the old fashioned way.

And if you don’t show an ID in my SC county, you don’t vote.

Oh, please!

I need an ID just to rent a movie.  Is it really too much to ask someone to present proof of identity before voting?

There is only one reason to oppose showing an ID to vote - to make it easier for your side to cheat.
